  1. 10 year old British Gas installed Alarm system. DSC PC 5015 control panel DSC PC 5132 wireless receiver module - 433MHz combination of WLS 904P Wireless Passive Infrared movement detectors and WLS907 Magnetic contact transmitters for doors. Whilst in the house, had a tamper alarm go off. Warning light on due to tamper. Relates to one of the WLS907 door sensors. I've had the sensor cover off, micro switch working fine. But replacing cover and doing engineer reset does not help. Looks like sensor might be faulty. I notice the WLS907 sensor is a discontinued product!? what are my options? Can I still purchase these in the UK? Is there an alt…

  3. Hi I am trying to de-install a security system controlled by an ADE Optima Control system. The system was installed in 1999 and has not been used/maintained for several years. When I turn power off to the control panel the outside strobe and sounder alarms until I reconnect power. Even when I disconnect the battery in the control panel the sounder still goes off when the power to the control panel is turned off (this could be irrelevant to the main issue). Within the control panel there are wires into each of the TADB terminals on the main PCB i.e. there is probably a tamper circuit on the external sounder. As the sounder on the external wall is fairly inaccessible is t…

Evening, Just registered, and spent a bit of time reading around - great forum! Is it still the norm to fit front and rear door contacts as part of a domestic alarm install? If you are thinking "yes, why on earth not" - i fitted a few domestic alarms when i started as an electricians apprencice 15 years ago but not had much to do with them since. I recall fitting the surface and flush fitted ones (for internal doors), although since, noticed that sometimes properties don't always have them. I guess this is a variance of: The installer The layout of the house (and getting cable neatly to the door perhaps) The improved design on P.I.R's (i remember fitting pressure…

Back yard is about 3m by 6m. The 3m side has a double french window and the 6m house side has two dual sliding sash windows. Opposite the 3m side is a 6ft tall wall about 5m long. I am now wondering if I could protect the yard from intruders with either an outdoor PIR (say Takex MS-12FE) or maybe a beam (say Takex PB-30TK). Which do people think would be most suitable (if any)?. Thanks. bee

  6. Evening, I'm due to complete on a new build property next week, as part of the spec I've ordered and paid for alarm pre-wiring which has all been installed. However having completed the pre-occupation inspection today the site electrician has since my last visit mistakenly installed an alarm system! It's a basic system and doesn't have some of the features I was looking for such as support for prox tags and an auto dialler so I'm going to have to rip it out. Is this likely to be a fairly easy job or am I going to find everything will have wiring terminals in different places and cause me a problem connecting everything up?

What's the general way of doing a sash window with wired sensors please?. Wireless was easy, one part of the sensor on each horizontal across the middle. I'm presuming it's going to need two sensors, but how to get wires out or stop one magnet hitting the other sash is puzzling my old brain a bit. Is there a 'standard' method please?. I know I could use a PIR but I'd rather stop them getting in in the first place. Are glass break detectors a reliable option?. Thanks, bee

I've got an Axis M1031-W and have set it up on the same network as the DS2, but I can't seem to get either to connect. Does anyone have a trick to getting the DS2 to pick up the feed from an Axis cameras? I'm sure there's a setting which needs changing on the camera menu. They're on the same Ethernet module on the same router, but I haven't set up port forwarding. Thanks, Dan

  10. Hi I have a flex 20 panel with a strange error. (Not sure what it is). Panel is bought and installed by me, I don´t have a service contract. I´m using RF units only. It has been working perfectly until now (or stil is except the error). My main door with a magnetic contact (DO800M) is programmed as Part-Final zone. When I set the system (full or part doesn´t matter) the panel displays 1021 Entré (which is my main door) Whith the choices [esc] to cancel and [enter] to override. If I override the system sets and everything is fine. I´ve triggered the system via the main door and it works. Nothing shows up in the log and the magnetic contact seems to work. …

  11. Hi, I recently moved into a new house with a Scantronic 9800, but no user or engineer code. I had to refresh the NVM so lost all the programming. I have reprogrammed it, and it works OK but for a problem with a zone with 4 Viper inertia sensors. I can't get them to reset. By which I mean, if whilst the alarm is not set a Viper gets triggered, the comfort LED (as I believe it is known) comes on and stays on, and if I then go to set the alarm I cannot without first doing an engineer reset. If no Viper has been triggered before the alarm is set, all is OK. So, after a bit of research, I gather from a previous thread on this forum that one of the Viper's 12V terminal…

Hi there, As mentioned in my previous thread regarding repairing some cable on a elder neighbour's alarm, and scouring this forum, I see that her keypad is a ACT Accord XPC. I see that this RKP is considered obsolete. If she wants to replace it, what would be a good choice? Can it be replaced with any RKP? Thanks Rex

Does anyone recognise this logo / product? I've look at loads or pictures online and can't work it out. I've also checked the PCBs and can't find a single manufactures name anywhere. Thanks in advance, Dan

  14. I've just installed a Reson8 (replacing a v. old bell box). I've used a 4 wire connection (from Optima Compact panel) as that's what was already in place and have not bothered with the strobe (not too sure I see the point in the strobe anyhow). As before, I broke into the last part of the wiring (inside the bell box) that fed the siren unit itself [the red (+ve?) wire] to route via an internal emergency cut-off switch. With the emergency cut-off switch in the on position all works as one would expect. With the emergency cut-off switch in the off position I would have expected the siren to be silent, But it isn't. A low level siren is omitted (and as as far as…

Hi I have just fitted some Honeywell IS-215TQ Quad Element PIRs. The instructions say that, after walk-testing, I should disable the alarm LED (using the switch in the unit). Is there some specific reason for doing this or is it just "optional"? Personally, I find the odd wink from the LED as I move around reassures me that it is still working as it should and I would, therefore, prefer to leave it on. . . . . but not if it is damaging to the PIR or detrimental in some other way that I am unaware of. Any thoughts welcome.
