  1. Hi, My Eurosec CPX has been working fine for a number of years but just recently I have returned home to find the strobe flashing on the Gardtec XS3D bell box, but the alarm has not been triggered. I have looked at the log on each occasion but there is nothing to suggest any fault. If I completely set then unset the system it then resets the strobe. My questions is, is this indicating a fault, or is this perhaps a faulty XS3D unit? Many thanks Steve

We all know that the gel batteries in an alarm panel should be replaced at regular intervals but what about the battery packs in SABs? I know that these are usually a different battery technology (usually NiCAD or NiMH) as opposed to the lead acid types used for panel backup and are usually soldered in but they must have a servicable life? Does anybody routinely replace the module/entire bell box after a certain number of years or are they just left to die?

  4. Hi there, Firstly, I've been lurking as a guest on here for a few weeks now as I've gone through installing a new Bosch Solution 16+ kit into my parent's place, and have found this forum to be an invaluable resource, so I can't thank you all enough. I have tested the whole system and it works fine, but for wiring of the Bosch ND100 GLT panic button which I have been able to force bypass through the 'Panic Alarm - Circuit Open' error. The control panel was pre-programmed at purchase for me, with this panic button configured to Zone 4. Seemingly, wiring the sirens, sensors and wireless receiver was the easy part because this has got me stumped. In …

Right so I have a Pyronix Sterling 10 in my property but until yesterday I didn't have the codes for it, It has 3 PIR's and 1 Reed Switch, 2 of the PIR's need replacing as someone has painted over the bottom part of them, also the reed switch is no longer working as someone has cut through the cable and then instead of rewiring they have just disconnected it in the panel, so in total I need to replace 2 PIR's, 1 Reed Switch and then add another 3 Reed Switches. I do have an engineers manual somewhere for it which I can dig out but I wondered if you could offer any advice or anything. Sorry for the long message, Thanks in advance

Hi there, I have offered to assist an elder lady with a cable (both mains and PIR) repair that a mouse has taken a liking to. As a recent widow, she is gobsmacked to have been quoted over £2k. I will splice some new sensor cable to the pcb and fit a junction box to the mains with anew bit to the pcb. It's no big deal! Having installed my own alarm, I am not unfamiliar with the workings, however......! Her alarm was professional fitted over ten years ago and from my understanding, the mains cable looks wrong on two counts. 1. It is currently three core, white 'lighting' flex, not the grey twin core and earth. Is normal flex suitable and should I replace like for …

Hi all, I have an ex ADT Le Sucre system that is no longer in contract. ADT have advised that they can reconfigure the device for £99 so it can be used as a standalone system or have confirmed via letter that this can be completed by a qualified alarm installer. I thought the Le Sucre product was sold under licence to ADT so this did surprise me a little. Anyway...I have the system, consisting of door sensors, PIRs, RFID tags, control box and the control panel. The control box has a slot for a SIM card and a USB port. I cant find much online about this system, however I did find a Honeywell document that states that the unit can be configured easily via a PC.…

  8. I am about to install a Scantronic 9651PD and Honeywell AG8 External Sounder/Strobe. I should be grateful if anyone can please confirm I have understood the connections correctly between the 9651 and the AG8. My uncertainty arises from the fact that the manual for 9651 shows connections to a "typical" external siren/strobe which has 7 connectors whereas the AG8 only has 5. The AG 8 manual also throws in some confusion of its own by referring to its connectors as: ST- R- SW- V+ V- yet the connections actually marked on the unit itself are: TR- S- V+ V- ST- The AG 8 manual also contains a table of connections to a range of control panel…

Hi all, I would like some advice on buying a DVR to setup up a home security system. I have been hunting the MINEFIELD of DVR's and just want to make sure I don't end up buying a box of junk. I have been looking at the Procom 8 ch DVR with 1 TB HD Here is a link to it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320921369058 I would like to have access to it via the net and also allow limited access to it via my website and use both PTZ and fixed cams. So is this a good buy or is there something else members think would sute my needs better ? Paul

  12. Hi, I've been thinking about fitting an alarm and I've had a couple of quotes from security firms, both of which have recommended a hybird wired/wireless system, coming in at around £750 (basically, control panel, keypad, 4/5 wired pirs, 2 wireless pirs, 2 wireless door contacts, wired bell box, dummy bell box). The wireless part covers some out buildings that would be very difficult to route wires to. So I was thinking would it be a option to go fully wireless and install myself - I'm quite technically able and I'm sure I could tackle it. I realise the wireless stuff gets mixed reviews - but the technology seems to be getting there. Question is, which syste…

  13. Hi All, I've had a look around and the wireless topics seem fairly old, and I would've hoped the Tech has moved on. So i hope it's ok to post a new topic. Really hoping some of you can offer advice as I've been reading uip on this for a while and I'm getting pretty confused! The House/Requirements It is a mid terraced house in North London. It's in the middle of a long terrace, so the back of the house is not easily accessible. We have two cats which are locked in the rear room at night/when we are away. We are currently renovating the house. The house has three floors; ground, 1st, and a loft extension. I think I would need: Contacts/Vibration S…
