Hi All Ive purchased a paxton compact access control unit for a little project, very simple to setup with the mag locks. However, there will also be a seperate door phone which needs to operate the same lock - Ive been told i need a relay (and have one - a videx n506?) however im not sure i do? Can i just connect the output of the doorphone to the exit switch input in series with the exit switch? If not, can anyone advise how i need to wire in the relay ? Confusing the hell out of me! Thanks all!

1k and 2k (2x1k)with the resistors going at the detector not in the panel. I'm just playing on a bench at the moment with a pa button using the blue resistors that came with the rios and they are weighing in at 12300 ohms. I've got loads of them. I'm guessing they are the wrong ones so atrip out to maplin I guess? What I would like to know is what's best practice for fitting resistors in an eol detector which doesn't have built it ones. Does anyone have a photo? I don't want to go using cable blocks if the better way is to just screw the resistor into the terminals of you get what I mean. I'm not wanting it to be a bodge job. Equally I'm not an installer so I can't …

  4. Hi All Hope all is well. I hope this is not a stupid question. I thank you in advance. I've purchased a Honeywell galaxy ethernet module. I have a query in relation to powering down the panel prior to installing it. When i have put the panel into engineers mode, and disconnect the fused spur, i will have to remove the backup battery power also. Will the external bellbox sound, when the backup battery power is removed? Appreciate your reply. Great forum. Regards Zemme

Id like to look into getting a cctv system installed just to cover a few angles and the front door from inside. I have a basic grasp of the system and its layout but can someone explain the numbers on the cameras to me - 400 - 700 etc - is that lines / resolution ? I'll get a box with a hard drive and local monitor with the facility to get it hooked up to a static ip for remote monitoring. This literally is my first enquiry for cctv though!

  6. Started by Reset,

I have recently fitted a Scantronic 9651 panel and 9943 keypad. All was working OK, but I needed to open the panel to install and programme a dialer. Obviously the alarm triggered upon opening the panel. Upon closing the panel lid, I tried to set the alarm, but the keypad displays 1 fault, and proceeding further it alerts me to lid tamper and subsequently call installer. I have attempted to undertake an engineers reset many times as per the installation booklet be I have been unable to do this as it says that the display shows the alarm condition - Iam sure its me being thick, but I can't show alarm condition, then enter the installer mode. I can enter the installer mode …

  8. Hi there, I wasn't certain which section to post this in, I chose this one but if it's not appropriate feel free to move it ) I have a Melcom ST6100 which was fitted (by someone who is no longer in the UK) when we bought our house about seven years ago. We've not used it for the last year or so because it's been a nightmare - control panel getting locked up, alarm going off without reason, tamper intermittently showing up, etc. Tomorrow a friend who is a qualified electrician is going to come over to help me with it. I am not a professional electrician, but I know quite a bit about electronics (I am a licensed radio ham and very much at home with a soldering iron). This…

Finally got round to fitting my accenta g4 system all seems well set up ok, all appears to be fine until I trigger a alarm in a real alarm scenario, the bell box will only ring for 3-4 seconds then stop, have I left a link in or out maybe?? I have installed one previously and never had a problem, can someone please give me a clue as to where I have gone wrong.

Hi there, Further to my Replacing RKP thread, I'm starting a new one! Yesterday, following the advice here, I replaced her old alarm with a Accenta Gen4 Mini, associated RKP and Activ8 PIR. Had previously done a continuity check on the cables and know which is which. The old ADT system had EOL resistors in everything and all PIRs used only 4 of the available 8 cores. The Activ8 PIRs uses six of the cores (+/-; 2 x tamp; 2 x zone.) There are only three PIRs in use, a fire alarm and door contact. One PIR was labeled by the installer, Hall/SAB and it does run via an interanl SAB before going going to the PIR. The hall PIR uses 6 cores, leaving only two fo…

I have a Bentley Alpha2 panel with 3 Ademco wired PIR's from 1990 attached. This has worked fine for 23 years but the last two nights I have had a false alarm at around 1a.m. each night from one of the PIR detectors. Wonder if it is temperature related due to the time (low temperature)? The outside is clean; no sign of spiders etc. When I went to remove the PIR cover, the alarm tamper went off so have given up for tonight. Questions: Whats the usual procedure to clean up the PIR and contacts without the alarm going off? Would I open the panel and try to jumper the tamper circuit, then maybe disconnect all wires to the PIR? Do PIRs just get temperamental with age and…

  15. Started by Gavin Kay,

Hi all, I have had experience with alarms before as I work for an alarm installation company (which have now moved onto CCTV). After installing a Texecom Premier 24 in a previous dwelling I opted to go for the Premier Elite 48-W for our new house complete with a single keypad, Texecom bellbox, 4 Impaq Contact-W, 7 Impaq Shocks and 7 QD-Ws. I have been back and fourth with a Texecom representative regarding an issue with an error Network 1 - Exp 1 lost, this then appears for Exp2 and Exp3 with the sounders going. This panel has expanders actually on the circuit board so I cannot figure out where the fault lies. Texecoms answers were simply to check its not in commissi…
