Hi There - If anyone's got any interesting CCTV or home surveillance stories they'd like to share I'm making a series of short documentaries for Channel 4 looking at the more positive aspects of how CCTV affects people's lives. At this stage there's no commitment to take part and its entirely confidential, but I'd love to hear from anyone with a story to tell. Charlie Russell Producer / Director fivepoundfilms@hotmail.com

Walked into work yesterday to find I was put on a weeks notice due to lack of work Now I know only to well if there's no work it cant be helped but most companies here (N. Ireland) ring round other contractors to try and hire men out but they didnt bother their backside. I wouldnt normally care but the fact that I have just completed the biggest job this firm has ever had, on time and within budget its a bit of a kick in the nuts. Its a case of last in first to go, no problems with my work or timekeeping etc... Luckily the first company I rang are starting me tomorrow so I wont be out of work End of rant!

What are your thoughts on this? Earlier today, I spoke with one of my customers who called me because she was very worried. She had a new lounge carpet fitted...and as happens when wires are not concealed under floors etc, the carpet fitter cut an alarm cable. She silenced the alarm (triggered the tamper of course) and told the carpet fitters that she was going to contact "her alarm man" to repair the system. The carpet fitters refused to let her, and told her "we have a guy we use at times like this. We will sort it." She was a little upset, as, being elderly and actually having to spend much time in hospital undergoing severe cancer treatment, she didn't want "just…

Hi All, I have been talking to a colleague from another branch today and we got round to the subject of training. His complaint was that after a year or so with the company he has never had any "formal training ". Anything he has learned has been due to other engineers taking the time to show him or just worked it out for himself as he has gone along. How many of you have had any Professional training? I have no real or worthwhile reason for asking, just wondering. Regards Bob.

I'm an electrician & a client of mine has asked me to install fire alarms to 5 guest houses over the next couple of years. They aren't huge but are bigger than the sort of student accom that I had some experience of a few years back. So I think it's time I did some sort of a course to get me up to spec on the regs & certification. Can anyone suggest what course I can do to enable me to do the work & to certify it. Thanks in advance
