IMO no. FOr years they have been pushing the security industry into insisting on grade 3 for most risks, as another not listened to body IPCRES did before. Plus due to the BER they are no longer permitted to use brand names such as Redcare etc they created / updated a guidance document entitled LPS 1277. This was to be the standard all communcation systems are tested against and approval should mean insurance acceptance. But the insurance world do not listen to this Body. Below is an example of the mis infomation provided by insurers to end users. This occured because the client wanted to move away from redcare classic and leave BT. We offered a webway GPRS/PSTN unit …

Hello, First Post so unsure if this fits here. I got put one of these 'Refresher Training' for working at heights. Has anyone herd of this madness. When going up ladders you should now harness yourself onto the ladder encase you fall? However I was thinking about this, If your ladders are falling or you are going to call I would rather land on the customer nice comfy bushes than on my back with ladders crushing me. Has Health & Safety went mad!

Went to a WW1 training event / seminar yesterday. As you may know we have started using these (in IP mode where possible) as our preferred high risk signalling device. Still using red secure at grade 3 for the low risk stuff. We dont use Grade 2 anything apart from digis. But the below came up. As you know 8243 calls for the below text to be added. However we have added that with some additional notes as below. BS8243 2010-11 If an ATS provider is offering Grade 2 or 3 signalling solutions, self certified or otherwise to Grade 2 and 3 you need to consider attributing warnings to your specifications. An LPS1277 approved dual path solution would not need a warning beca…

Im looking for opinions on the following. I have a new I/A to be policed. I have double leaf doors with one side bolted shut. Should the bolted door cont be entry zone or normal alarm. Im unsure as technically this door is on the entry route so shouldnt get confirmed alarm. But it is internally bolted shut so i wondered if it would be acceptable to set up as normal alarm zone. Any thoughts?

Mornin' all, yesterday I was servicing an alarm in a private house. The owner was a chain smoker, I was there for about 75mins, he had a cigarette one after another for all the time I was there. Don't know the make, or care, but stink, did they ever, the smoke got into my system for the rest of the day/evening, b***** awful. Shower and change of clothes as soon as I got home. Q. Are there any regulations relating to working in these conditions? It would be good to know before I decide to refuse to go there any more.

We had a discussion recently about grading etc and i wrongly stated there was an application standard that prescribes things in some detail. However we have decided not to adopt this. The point i was discussing was the following As you can see this makes it simple like 5839 imo

I have been trying to understand the variance I see in risk assessments and grading. Plus the variance in detection levels on the system designs in see. Can you good people offer any simple advice on what I or the insured can do to choose the correct type of system and level of detection? Many thanks

Hi everyone, apologies if there is already a thread on this but i tried searching. i'm a student at university doing a project on home security. i have been a bit stuck on the standards as there is a lot to filter through to get to the vital information and even then, i don't really understand what is necessary. so far i have gathered that - intruder alarms have to comply to EN50131 & DD243 - which is a code of practice? - thief resistant locks have BS3621, BS8621, BS10621. - they are seem the same to me. can anyone simplify the important requirements of these standards or is it just a matter of reading through the material? many thanks,

Hi Dont want to get anyone into trouble here, but I have noticed that if you Google "dprsecure ssaib" you will come accross dprsecure. They state many many times that they are acredited by the SSAIB. Yet they are not, I have checked and they are not on the list. I did send an email to the SSAIB but nothing has happened. They also state in their web site "DPR Secure are soon to become proud members of SSAIB, the leading certification body responsible for promoting and upholding high quality and service standards within the electronic security, fire systems and guarding security industries in the UK." http://www.dprsecure.co.uk/about.asp Surely they cannot say this …
