Hi, Im thinking of going for the bog standard 1E model. But the 3E dodgy shape one looks ok as well. Does the shape of the 1E have any advantages over the 3E? They come in red, yellow and white. Which colour looks the best to those who have actually seen them? Also where is the best place to mount a bellbox? We can either put it right at the top of the house in the triangle thing with a long ladder. Or climb on the extension and put it just around the corner. What bell boxes do the pros use? Do you also go for this popular one or do you try and be slightly different?

Now that I have wired my control panel, I am having difficulty getting to the programming menu. I have at the moment 5 PIRS and one door contact and 2 keypads wired. 1 keypad is the standard R8 remote keypad (8 zones yellow LED) and the other is Veritas Excel Remote Keypad (smaller LCD panel display). All I am getting on the LCD keypad is the LEDS going thru sequence from power to Unset to Tamper and back round again through same sequence. On the control panel, there is a red LED flashing on and off just near the transmit connector. Any attempt to press any key on the keypad produces a tone and the display shows the key I pressed. When a press 1 display shows the numb…

EDIT: have found out how to do it. didnt relize you have to use the PIN then prog to change it

Hi, My friend ran some wiring in my house for an alarm system which is later to be connected by a tradesmen. However Ive been reading around and people have been saying that alarm cable should not be run alongside mains/lighting cables. However having just lifted up a few floor boards ive noticed that the alarm cable has been run alongside mains and lighting wiring. Is this likely to cause a big problem and if so whats the fix? Re-run all cabling? Thank you.

Hi, Just found this forum and thought it was worth a try, i know this alarm has a track history of "degrading with time" and other such problems, but it looks well made and i hoped there may be some chance of sorting it (or else i pull it apart for supplies). I got this alarm at a car boot sale (usual story) but it came with 2 bell boxes, 3 PIRs (with Microwave) and the keypad for the alarm - even receipts, quotes and service history (good deal for £5 lol). anyway, i have tried to bench test the alarm (all zones / tampers looped out and tamper spring ceremoniously taped down) but all it seems to do is display a "a" and beep whenever i press a button, no change. I am al…

Okay Thanks for all your help and advice (and comments!) from my questions on Technical Terms thread. After all that debate about the various dos and donts in the thread I have decided on my kit list. Control Panel - 1 x Texecom Premier Expert 48 Texecom Premier Expert 48 PIR - 4 x Texecom MirageTexecom Mirage I need a bit of help with this one. I thought the Texecom Mirage series looked good (or am I wrong?) but I cannot decide on whether to use the Quad or the Dual Technology. Which one is best or most stable (thinking about limiting - or removing altogether - the number of false alarms). Battery 7.2ah 12V Lead Acid Battery x 1 Door contact x 2 Panic Button x 1 …

I have somehow managed to change the entry/exit time from 30 seconds to what appears to be forever! I have long since lost the engineers guide (I am an ex engineer out of the business for several years) and would appreciate some advice. The panel is quite old (About 5-6 years) and I have been unable to find an engineers guide on the web. Does anyone know of a guide? If not, anyone tell me what I must do to set the system back to 30 seconds? Any help would be appreciated. Jase

I have seen a device on an american website that looks a useful alarm accessory. It is called a barking Dog alarm. The desciption says It is called reX10 so I presume it is an X10 device. Barking Dog Alarm Has anyone seen these is the UK? The only one I have seen in the UK is slightly different Guard Dog Alarm This seems better in some ways because the dogs attitude changes as the person gets closer. It seems a bit expensive for what it is and it doesn't turn on any inside lights after the barking starts (which I think was a neat feature). Has anyone used one of these and can testify to it's effectiveness? It is said that a barking dog can put off most burgla…

Hey all, I am looking for a good quality alarm system for work, the system will need to have 3 or possibly 4 pir sensors, we also have a big main door that will need a sensor, 2 windows that will need sensors and double doors that will need sensors. I would imagine that for the windows shock sensors would be best, but I would consider anything decent. The system will need to have 2 keypads if possible. Thanks all.

Just a follow up really.... I think it could be taken the wrong why to post on the other nexus debate as to what's wrong with it.... as we're all verbally bashing the poor thing, can anyone pick any good points with it..... I feel this is going to be a very empty thread.... but for political reasons maybe it's a good idea

Following a recent posting about installing a Nexus 8 Panel it is quite obvious that the profession is not keen on it. Considering that this section of the forum is to guide us "newbies" maybe comments like "s***t" are not much use. I have installed the system ..... 2 door switches, 8 PIR's, 2 Keypads and a dialler and "to me" it works fine. It would help a newbie though if the comments would have been a bit more specific. It would help if I knew why the Nexus 8 is considered to be "s***t" What are it's faults If they are serious faults then changing the control panel would not be a big deal. If you can't post them on the forum then mail me direct. glangarnant@bti…

Hi all have tried 2 bell boxs on my optima compact, but every time i turn the system on the bell box keeps giving the control panel a tamper fault, i hold down the tamper on control panel, type in code, reset. Ten seconds later tamper fault again, i reset the control panel goes dead wont do anything. I have treid a replacement bell box. The control panel is new. I should say that the bell box does not sound, but strobe does flash. However if i link t&a on control panel the control panel will then set and work fine i can go through the test procedure to test strobe but siren obviously does not then work. control Panel = optima compact g3 bell box 1 = tate alar…

Just installed a Melcom AD1000 Dialler with a Nexus 8 panel. All works well but the user manual for the AD1000 is confusing with regards to the user changing and viewing Telephone Number 1. Both these operations (according to the manual) use the same procedure. ENTER CODE press PROG ENTER All this does is to erase the number. Engineer mode is fine. Anybody help ?? Bernard

I am looking for a small home system that will be relatively easy to fit (for a competant DIYer!) and programme and be reliable. I considered the Infinite Wireless system but have been put off it by the cost and negative feedback on wireless systems. I am now looking for a wired system to install on the ground floor of my new home. My home is brand new with all flooring in place. I have a vertical soil pipe duct which I can break into for the bell box cabling. I consider my upper floors to be secure enough not to be alarmed (as do my local installers). I want to include: Entrance/Hallway - 1 PIR & 1 Door contact, Remote Keypad Garage - Door Contact, Alarm Panel …
