Hi, Where would be the typical place to mount a voice dialler? Would you do this next to the remote keypad, or somewhere central on it's own? I thinking about the best place to locate it if you want to use the remote listen/talk feature. I'm assuming something like the SD2 or Texecom unit have their own speaker and mic located only in the speech dialler itself. Thanks, Steve

I have recently installed a pyronix sterling 10 pannel. Sounders are texecom odyssay 1e Twin pezzo After the installation I was encountering a tamper fault when setting the panel. When not set the tamper fault did not show, only when setting. I have followed texecom wiring of 2 bell boxes together. I did mangage to rectify the fault by linking the sterling 10 panel bell box connections 0v and bell tamper. can any one suggest if I have to supply a link inside one of the sounders 0v to bell tamper. Regards LED

Is it OK to run alarm cables on the outside of the house. I thinking if I do go wired, I could get everything connected on the outside of my house with very little disruption to the inter decor. Any comments? Thanks. Steve

So I'm battling with the idea of a DIY wired vs wireless. I know most of the folks on here have a healthy disregard to wireless, but is it really that bad. Most of your replies to a question like "Best Wireless System" are typically, don't touch with a long pole, or they're all ****. Some people must be having success with wireless, and I would really like to know what the real problems are. If the're prone to may false alarms, then that's a big problem. If they are easy to defeat with jamming etc, then again, that's a problem. Would like to hear some success stories if anyone has any. After all, this is a DIY forum, and as it stands the wireless units are by far t…

This was covered in another thread of mine, but I'm interested in whether any of the professional installers would do a cable run to a set of driveway gates and a side gate? I had a little resistance on the last company I was talking to. Here's my idea. I have two sets of driveway gates. The left hand set I use all the time, and the right hand set is mainly closed at it's only used when I take my motorhome out. Now, I would like the right hand set and the side gate to be on their own area (Texecom speak) and armed all the time. Then, I would like the left hand gates on their own area and set to chime when opened. What sensor types would be a good bet here. I would th…

Hi. I had problems with my last Control Panel (Omnicron 7000) and after reading the relevant posts on this forum I opted for the Optima G3 Compact as a takeover panel. My question is this. The new system is in place now and appears to be working fine albeit I want to fine tune the zone programming of it. Zone1 is the entry/exit. I`ve tested the alarm and the only thing I have not been able to set is as follows, if the alarm has been set and we re-enter via the correct entry/exit zone the timer for code to be entered kicks in, if however during this time I walk into say Zone 2 then it does not trigger the alarm (I think it`s to do with the time inhibited function). C…

I have a Meridian Alarm Control Panel which was installed 15 years ago, it has always been a problem as whenever we've had a power cut the alarm would activate and need resetting by the guy who installed it. I've been away for a few days and whilst away sure enough we've had a power cut, my wife couldn't get the alarm to stop and unfortunately the installer is no longer contactable, my neighbour who tried to help, literally smashed the bellbox to pieces to stop it ringing. I obviously now need a new bellbox but I am also considering installing a completey new panel, after having read quite a few threads, on this very helpful site, I'm considering getting a Texecom Verit…

Looking for some expert advice!! A couple of years ago I installed in my house a Scantronic 9448+ Style, nothing fancy, a control panel, 6 zones and external bell box Flashguard to mid terrace victorian house. Have had no problems with it. We are about to have a new kitchen installed with extensive building work to the room that will take about 3 weeks. At the moment I have a PIR in the kitchen on its own zone. The PIR will need to be repositioned in the new kitchen. I think I physically need to disconnect the zone wiring from the control panel for the duration of the works, that will make me happier and make life easier for the numerous different trades that will be c…

Hi I am on a small budget and looking for a an alarm. Obviously to keep costs down, I am after a wirefree one which I am hoping to install it myself. I know a lot of people here do not like wirfree alarms as they are a pain to maintain but considering I will be checking for low betteries etc and making sure it is fucntioning, is there a decent alarm with an autodialer that is reliable? I have also heard some wirfree alarms can be disabled by buglars etc, is that true? Thanks all for your help.

I have an Optima XM and last week it was working fine, I re-decorated, took up carpet and found a cable to one of the sensors ( I assume) I didnt know at first and thought it was old phone cable so I cut it. Two of the sensors died so I re connected the wires and they came back on. The carpet fitter came and now all sensors are dead, when I tried to set the alarm all 4 zones flash up and none of the sensors flash red any more. I have taken the carpet up and checked for breaks in the cable but I cant see any? I am going to get the carpet fitter round as I assume they are insured for this but for a quick fix how do I diagnose the problem myself?
