Hello all, I have little or no experience with alarm kits but am thinking about buying something for my place. Any tips will be great. Some info: -I want to protect a 5th floor apartment with fairly small divisions. 4 rooms in total, each with one window. Plus the main door. -Ideally, I'd prefer a wireless kit. -I have zero experience with alarms or alarm kits, but would prefer to buy it and install it myself if possible. Main requirements would be -being fairly easy to install/having decent tech support/documentation -reliable (no false alarms, not very easy to cancel) -with some kind of GSM capability so I can be warned by SMS or voice when the thing goes of…

Hi everyone, I Live in the US and //.National Installer.// just installed a concord express system in my home. I think I have a problem with my cats setting off the PIR Motion detector. If possible I'd rather fix it myself than deal with //.National Installer.//. I have seen some "pet proof" motion detectors on the internet. Can I just take mine down and wire one of these in place or does the new one need to be programmed in? Also, I'm looking through the install guidee and I see the PIR has four wires, 12v gnd zone(x) and zcom. What does the zcom do? Thanks!

Hello folks, Firstly I would like to point out that I've posted this in the DIY Alarm Installers section; so please treat me gently! My alarm (ADE Accenta G3), which I installed myself about 18 months ago AND HAVE SERVICED REGULARLY (as described very helpfully on this site) has had a couple of FA's recently. One was while the house was empty (full set) and was the Landing PIR; the neighbours (who have keys and codes) sorted that out as I was on holiday. The second was at night (part set) and was the Lounge PIR; that woke me up PDQ! In both cases all the relevant areas doors, etc were fully closed and there were no storms, power cuts or anything odd at the time. I co…

Texecom sell say the oddessy 3 as well as its empty dummy. The real one has two green flashing LED's which flashing from left right (or maybe other way round) Anyways whats the point then in fitting a dummy oddessy box? It doesnt have the flashing green LED's so no ones gonna think its real anyways. Theyll know its a damn dummy! So defeats the puropse of having one doesnt it?!

Hi Everyone, In my house I currently have a Menvier TS700 alarm system for which I have the user code but no engineer code. I do have the installation manual for it so I know how to put it back to factory settings. But I am just a bit daunted by killing the power . If I remove the lid the tamper goes off and I can punch in my code and the alarm stops going off. But If I go further and remove both the battery power and mains power is the bellbox just going to go off until I repower up? :!: I tried to get the alarm company who installed it to come out but they have since gone bust and the majority of domestic installers in my area do either gardtec or texecom thanks i…

I have fitted a veritas 8 alarm pannel with an A1 bell box to our house with pirs and mag contacts, all works well. But we live in a very rural area and have noticed that most houses have an extra cylinder type sounder fitted outside. They make a continues sound like on a quarry. I would like to fit one to my system and wanted to know if it is possible with the veritas 8 and where to get one from.

Ive noticed that the scantronic 9751 has only one A/T point. That is one point of connection for all the tamper circuit wires. However its buddy the 9954 expander seems to have an anti tamper point for each circuit/zone. Why does the 9954 have a AT for each zone but the main panel only has one to be shared across all 8 zones? Surely they should have put more thought into the panel as they have done on the expnader? I mean getting 16 wires into one point is probably not possible. If the 9751 has all tampers at one point, do the tampers in the 9954 need to be on one point as well? Or can they be put on their own points? B)

Hello, We ran some alarm cables around the house, but two of them we forgot to lable! One was the RKP and the other was a door contact. We tested it with an AA batery connected to two wires at one end (red and black in our case) The other end got a multimeter set it to Dc mode. Set meter to 20m dial. Not sure what thats means but we got a reading so gave us the results. Anyways then connected up the other end to the probes. if it gave a reading it was that cable. and then we labelled it relevantly. Anyways this was kinda a fidly way as we used an AA battery and insulation tape to tape the wires at one end. So what do the pro;s use? have you got special kit? Or do yo…

Hello, Just wanted to know what the majority of the pro lads use to wire up their panels. As far as i understand, FSL = fully supervised loop. This method of wiring is more secure but also more difficult to carry out than CC - which is closed circuit. Which involves simply connecting up the wires! FSL uses to two resitors with a different value to allow the panel to differentiae between the two. That is the circuit signal. And the tamper signal. 1 resistor is fitted at the end of the loop in series. Thus this brings in the next concept. EOL - which is End of line. So basically as the resistor fits in at the end of the last detector its called EOL me thinks. Anoth…

Hey everyone, i have been reading topics on this forum for ages now and now i need your help. (a bit of background... i moved into a pub last october, business is going really well ect. anyway.. when we arrived we had rang a local elec. company to come and 'fix' the alarm that was here, as it was powered down (A galaxy 60 which i was happy about).. we decided it would just be easier as we were really busy. anyway.. a guy came out and took a look at it all and he said it would need a new battery and a few 'spare detectors'. Anyway he never turned up again.. shortly after i bought us a nice brand new Yale wireless alarm (HSA 3500), and fitted it easily.. and to this day i…

Hello, I have installed and wired a few Veritas R8plus panels, and have had no problems. I am now installing a Premier 816 panel, but can't find where to wire the tampers wires. On reading the manual, there seems to be no mention of the tamper connections apart from Auxiliary Input Options. Perphaps the R8plus was too easy to wire up and this panel requires abit more knowledge ! Can anyone help ?
