I've only recently joined this group & I've been browsing through the existing posts, generally looking for hints & ideas in preparation for replacing an old & nasty alarm installation at a house I just bought. One of the other threads in this topic mentions cable types & it has me puzzled. I've started a new post rather than hijack the other thread. Because EVERY core in the cable has to be SAME length. In TP cables pairs are twisted in specific manner and therefore are not suitable for alarm applications. It can be manufactured as screened. I can provide you with this kind of cable if no-one volunteers to. In UK you HAVE TO USE UK TYPE ALARM cable …

Hi all, I have recently moved into my flat. The alarm has been working fine up until today. It is a Veritas 8 zone alarm. When I tried to set it earlier, it simply made a short beep. Whatever button I press it does the same, even if I try to reset it with my pin number first. Is there anything I can do myself to get it working again?

Hello, I have just moved into a new house with an existing alarm system. I have replaced the front and back doors and forgot to remove the door detectors. Hence I have no alarm on the front and back door and if you set the alarm it goes off straight away. Can the door detectors be replaced with new ones? And if so do I need special detectors or can I simply use a universal type detector. I am a complete novice who desent understand the complexities of alarms and any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks

A red light comes on when the alarm has been set, normal setting chime is replaced by constant beeping. I looked in the user guide but this shows that an engineer is required to service the system. The system is about 1 year old. We do not know who fitted the system as we have only moved in a few months ago. Is there a way to reset system , I have the engineers code.

Hello all, Let me start off by saying I now absolutely NOTHING about alrm systems but I am having to learn fast as our alarm which was here when we moved in keeps going off by itself.... No bells ringing outside, just a small box which sounds like it has a tiny pneumatic drill inside it near the inside of the front door......and it is really REALLY annoying! I know the cause of the alarms fault...its water The alarm controll panel is situated below the bathroom and occasionally a small amount of water comes down the wall and into the control panel...the alarm either shorts or I suspect assumes someone is trying to tamper withit and off it goes with its pleasant DRDR…

Hi, I'm planning to replace the alarm system at a house I just moved to and would appreciate some advice on the type & location of sensors to use in the garage. It is a detached double garage roughly 6m square, one piece up & over door, medium sized window at the back (south facing) plus an entry door & window in one side wall (door against back wall). The door is fiberglass. The back window will get full sun, & through tree branches later in the day. Is there any type of area sensor that I can use in the garage that wouldn't be subject to false triggering? Any ideas appreciated, Robert Jenkins.

Hi, I'm contemplating installing a Visonic Powermax wireless alarm and I would like to hear from anyone who has already done this. Are they any good ? Do you get any/many false alarms etc I know, being a wireless piece of kit the Pro's will probably laugh, but are the current breed of wireless systems that bad ? Are there any other wireless alarm systems I should consider ? TIA Steve

Hello Gentlemen, and a happy St. Patrick's Day from Dublin Now. I'm wanting to replace an old panel that's been in the house I bought since day one. The panel is not operational and some of the sensors about the house are missing since PVC windows were installed. I've opened it up and it's got 'Scantronic Vista-V' on or about the PCBs. It was supplied originally by A1 Alarms (Don't know if they exist in the UK but they're big here). The panel appears to be 5 zones + 5 tampers. I haven't traced all the cable runs(the original markers are only in place at the panel end!) but here's a rough idea of what's wired to the panel; Front Door 1 x 12 core (2 to reed switch &amp…

Hello forum. Sorry for the long post but I Googled my way here as I have a bit of a problem with my alarm. To cut a long story short [1], I've just returned from holiday to find that my, admittedly old but previously faultless, Aritech CP33 control panel is no longer communicating with the system box. I plan a DIY replacement but meanwhile have a problem with the external strobe; its constantly flashing (presumably because the system was armed prior to the failure and therefore activated when it couldn

Can someone tell me why you should have a door contact if the area is covered with a PIR. I was just going to use PIR sensors as I hate seeing cables anywhere and that is obviously a problem with using door contacts.

Hi, I work in a launderette whose main alarm system is based on an ADE Logic 4 control panel. As a result of repeared attempts to break into the coin mechanisms of the washers and dryers (etc) the Owner would now like the machines to be alarmed. I installed a number of alarm systems in the 1980s so I'm quite happy to do the work but I would appreciate some advice! The first option we have is to use the tamper circuit on zone 1 (which is currently unused & we want 24hr protection). If we do this, I would like to bring cables from each different type of machine to an interface box next to the existing panel & connect the cables in series there (creating 'subzones'…
