Hi All, Does any one know if any manufacturers make a dual path (gsm & pstn) speech dialler. Just wondering, as i'm a newly set up installer and i think this would be something that would appeal to my customers. I am not yet NSI/SSAIB certified and just thought this would be a more reliable form of communication not involving the police. No monitoring costs (apart from mobile sim and telephone line costs), no URN cost, no nsi/ssaib required and secure dual path signalling. Any Thoughts?

HI, I have recently (today fitted two additional smoke detectors to my scantronic 9751. All was fine till i came out of engineering mode, the alarm was saying expander 1 missing - the smoke detectors and a couple of other zones are wired into this expander. I then did the following: 1. Checked all wiring and it appeared that the 12v incoming from the main panel was loose, i corrected this and tried again - it was still not having any of it. 2. I went to the main panel, removed the battery and the fuse the outside bell went off (obviously as it should) reconnected the battery put fuse back in and the alarm reset - on inital power up keypad went off showing lid tamper - …

We have recently bought a new Van. Peugeot Bippa 1.3 Td It is supposed to do 60+ mpg. We hoped to achieve late 40's from it with ladders on. We are now trialling mpg average with and without roof racks. Now across a few vans this could be quite a saving per year. Alternativly Im thinking of boxes for the ladders to reduce the drag etc. Has anyone done anything similar or worried about it. Our fuel bill currently is nearly 3k per month and i reakon we can make savings.

Im looking at taking everything of the roof on the vans. http://www.little-gi...t_black_pro.php The problem is the ladders. I want something at least 6.5m long that will fold down as small as possible. Might even get something like this in my boot. Anyone use anything similar? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1L8ZdZ2OJ_I

Hello folks, upgrading a system in the coming weeks where the current keypad is not in view from the outside of the property. However, the plan is to install a different sized keypad that will have to be installed elsewhere in the premises - meaning it can, if you strain to look through the window, be seen from the outside... is this against regs? I always thought as long as the keypad didn't show the system status and was within a protected zone area, it was ok? Maybe not! Any advice folks? (It's grade 2 system).

Today there was some sort of crash west bound on the m62 at around 6:00m the road was closed & reopened around 16:00, now whilst its better to be 4hrs late in this world than earlier in the next, however what kind of event warrants closing the motorway for 10hrs or so..... With the expection of the hearing it on the radio, this event which must has cost the economy millions of pounds does not appear to be reported in anywhere ? to say I'm f##ked off is quite an understatement

The boot of my car has two boxes of manuals that take up too much space. In this modern age do most still have paper manuals? If not do you keep them on a laptop or is there a better device?

Evening gents, Can i just say thanks for some of the advice ive seen written to people about there concept systems. I'll explain, Firstly i moved into my home about 18 months ago, alarm system was not working, about 2 weeks ago (from todays date) my home was broken into by some little scumbags. Then the missus was moaning about getting the alarm sorted, so here is the deal. I looked at the keypad to find all the wires had been cut, checked the pcb to find the fuses and batteries had been taken out and i removed the bellbox to find the tamper switch was taken out and just wired together alson a crack in the bb casing which exposed the small pcb inside. After 2 days of …

Seen a couple of local companies around here claiming they are "Police Approved" even when quoting for bells only, surely this is a misleading statement. My thought would be that the police do not approve companies or systems, they only hold a list of companies that are approved by NSI or SSAIB to install / maintain / monitor sytems that are eligible for police response.

maintenance_checklist.pdf The above PDF file is a list of most of the tests and checks I carry out each time I do an (bells only) alarm service. This is my own list so feel free to use it if you like. Obviously a few more checks are carried out for monitored systems. Im curious to know if the checklist above is simillar to what other service engineers do for each service..? So download or view the above file and take a close look at it, what else would you add to this list? what dont you do?
