Just been watched the Money Programme on the huge growth of Internet/VOIP telephony and how it looks like it going to be a huge competitor to the traditional PSTN even mobile system. I found it fascinating, how programs like Skype are revolutionising the way we communicate. Personally i think this is just the beginning and will not be surprised to see the decline in conventional telephony over the coming years as this type of communication takes off to the wider market. BT are taking action launching their 21CN which i think someone mentioned on here a while ago, converting their entire system to IP, interesting stuff.

Just a thought, i seemed to remember reading somewhere it was an offence to 'tap' into phone cables or add sockets in properties and only an official BT engineer is authorised to do so? Might be way off but it did say a big fine would be imposed if caught? Policed as well as Part P?

Learned an interesting thing today, all calls regardless of how you with hold or mask the identity of the originating number, are logged by the service provider. If the originating number is routed through several different service providers, it will be logged several times. This in effect means that it is impossible to hide a telephone call on a network anymore. I think technology is really starting to help the and more often than not it becomes just as effective crime reduction measure as good old fashioned policing.

I currently have 1 line. ADSL on it. I also have a second number with callsign to activate my fax. The second number was once my second number on ISDN Home Highway, they transferred it for free. I am thinking of getting a second PSTN line as my fax keeps picking up the main number, even though it supposed to be able to use call sign. Speaking to the BT ladies on the phone, who know not a lot........ They say if I have a new line, the call sign number will not be available for transfer?? Also, would I be best to have the adsl tranferred to the new line (or the numbers swapped from one line to the other). This would allow me to remove adsl filters on phone, sky, ala…

Smarty (Old BT Buddy), or anyone for that matter. Anyone know where you can get the BT connector's 1A (Blue Bean's) or 8A's (Clear Crimp's) from? Grease filled not an issue. CPC do a version of the 8A's, but they are c&*p & fall apart as you take them out of the box They are great for making a joint in a PIR etc. Regards Chris

Is redcare compatible on ISDN or ADSL lines?? What exactly is redcare?? I have seen it alot, but being a spark, have no idea who monitors it, or how it monitors the line. Just interested really, as I saw a redcare box plugged into a socket, with a normal phone then plugged into that. Kind of like a broadband microfilter, but larger.

This came up in a BSIA bulletin sometime ago - the fact that digicoms may not work if Broadband is activated on the line used for the ARC connection. Does anyone know where I can find a definitive statement on this issue?
