I have read so many posts saying two way is better than one way wireless. Well, this is true for the middle and upper end systems because they use a combination. Normal PIR's don't need two way wireless, only certain types really like video verification detectors etc need two way and top manufacturers have identified this. Purely 2 way systems are that way because the technology they are using is limited or they are not advanced enough to incorporate the two systems. Hence it tends to be the bigger companies that do. A good one way system is better than a cheap two way system. If you are only fitting a home installation with standard pir requirements, then a two way has …

Hi all, I have been asked to look into installing a wireless system to protect a garage that is approx. 60 - 65 metres away from the main property (down a back alley) The logistics of getting a armoured cable to provide power to the garage is a no no. The garage is not in perfect line of sight from the main property. So i thought of maybe installing a Pyronix enforcer panel in the entrance hall of the customers main property (as i can easily pick up a 230v supply from there) Then install a wireless bell & wireless contact on the garage. The system could be armed / disarmed via a fob or main panel in the house. My concern is the range and whether it is to…

Hi, I have a customer who has a single GJD opal pir going to a GJD Sapphire 1500 Mk3 triggering external LED lighting.. The customer has procured a voltek 1804 PIR.. My question is, can i also interface the voltek into the GJD controller as well as using the exisitng GJD opal pir? The wiring to the Opal is 4 cores - 12v / 0V DC (2 cores), Trigger (A) - single core trigger input into controller for detection & one as a photocell input (S) The Voltek is much the same as the above with S - trigger input L -Photocell or light level If i was to rely on the Opal to control the light level into the controller (to allow relay switching of the LED lights dur…

Hi, We have just moved into a new property and it is fitted with an Accenta G3 alarm system, my problem in that i have no external sounder volume at all, my internal ones sound but not external, could this just be a fault with the bell box itself or could this be a setting, when i read the manual and enter engineers mode i can do a bell test which activates the internal sounders on the keypads but nothing from the external, if i try to press low volume sounder / high volume sounder or walk test the panel just beeps and won't let these functions work. Thanks for any help

I have just installed an electric garage door opener. My plan was to fit a magnetic contact onto the alarm circuit so that when the garage door went up, it closed the contacts on a magnetic switch (patio door type, heavy duty) which was wired in parallel with the PIR at the back of the garage.. I could than park the car, close the garage, and go into the house to switch the alarm off. I have done this, but what I have found is that although the contacts on the magnetic reed switch are closed, the PIR still triggers the alarm! Any suggestions how I overcome this? I have checked the continuity of the wiring and the switch with an Ohm meter and all is OK… it’s as if the al…

Hi, I have a Vista Quantum QP08-1000hf that gets stuck at the loading programs page & does not progress from there. I have tried swapping out the PSU & hard drive from a working Vista unit & this has made no difference, a collegue of mine said there is a way to default the unit and that this may correct the issue... My question is has anyone had a similar issue? If so how did you sort it? And secondly does anyone know a way of reseting the DVR? Thanks in advance NIck (aissecur)

Hello, I have just moved into a new house and i'm seeking out some advice. The house has an alarm system installed, for which the previous owner has left the code. The alarm box on the outside has "british gas" on it but the key pad panel has no branding at all. I think the alarm may have been operated / serviced by dyno as there has been a letter addressed to the previous owners with "dyno locks and alarms" on it ? The alarm has 1 magnetic contact on the hall/entry door which sounds a beeper whenever opened and there are 3 PIR sensors fitted at the other points of entry downstairs. I'm sorry if this is a little vague but this is the only information i have as i hav…

Hi guys I don't suppose anybody knows where to get aluminium (aluminum for any americans out there) conduit and fittings. It's about 10-15mm OD with clamp down corners, terminations and T-pieces. I've used it loads in the past but never bought it as there was always plenty of stock in the stores.

Hello Everyone, I'm really looking for some help in the vast world of security systems that I know nothing about! Could anyone offer any advice on the below 3 quotations received for a security system to be installed and on whether they're reliable and recommended systems. The property is a residential 4 bedroom house that is occupied through the week, one outbuilding to be protected and an option to arm 2 bedrooms if not occupied. The installers I believe opted for a sensor on the landing rather than 2 in the separate rooms. Regarding price I don't really have a budget but don't want to go for something above what is required for a residential property. I am also…

Afternoon, After much searching and nearly getting there, I still have 1 hurdle to overcome. I have a Concept Panel and I have replaced my old bell box with a Challenger AU1000WBX. All is working except for the strobe, which frustratingly is not! I have made the following connections. Could someone possibly advise where I may have gone wrong? Bellbox STB- to Panel Strobe- Bellbox 12V+ to Panel D Bell Bellbox 12V- to Panel A 0 Volts Bellbox Tamper to Panel T Tamper Return Bellbox Trig - to Panel B Trig I would have expected that the Strobe + in the panel would also have to be connected in the Bell Box nut I was …

Hi, I'm at the first fix stage of my self build and need to get an alarm system organised. I've already run cables for numerous detectors back to a central point and now need to decide on the system and whether I install myself or not. I've narrowed it down to: Honeywell Galaxy - easily available and looks relatively simple to setup DSC PC1832 powerseries - as this is supported for integration into the home automation system i'm looking at deploying (myself) I've got a few questions: 1) Does anyone have any comments on either system and whether a self install is a good idea? 2) Monitoring - I do want to get the system monitored - will companie…
