I am doing some additional mains and telephone wiring for a friend in her lounge. The floor is solid, having been filled in to combat severe rising damp, and all the pipework and cabling is behind the skirting. Unfortunately, this is the last chance to lay cables for a future buglar alarm without serious inroads into the decoration elsewhere. I have laid the cables (unscreened which I now realise was stupid). I have a few days before new skirting board is fixed. I intend to cover the mains and the burglar alarm cable with PVC capping, but the maximum separation I can achieve between the two sets will be about 30mm. There will be three runs of about 4m each round t…

Hi firstly many thanks for you help on my last problem - alarm is fitted With the recommended sensor in the conservatory and is working fine so far ) Now for my new question - currently upgrading and alarm in a relatives house - the system which was was wired with a fully supervised loop with the revenant resistors. I'm expanding the alarm - due to an extension and replacing the panel - when I've come to wire in the existing smoke alarm there is no tamper or resistors on it? Is this correct???? And will this cause me problems if I just continue with this wiring on the new panel? Any help will be aprechiated. Steve

  5. We are a CCTV installer and have had an old Dowshu 3016 from a trade-in sitting in our stores for a while - the engineer cannot remember the dvr passwords he put into the machine - is there any way we can bypass this or do a factory reset without having to send unit back to dowshu.

A big thank you to them, a chair from a dining suite (Well we all aint millionaires), gave up. Or a side rail did. Went to shop WITHOUT receipt but they still got a box, opened it and got the part rather than make me wait 3 weeks (As have a dinner party this weekend). So a heads up, not all stores are bad. Also a mention on their website. Way to go Homebase (AKA Argos............)

I have installed a new Visonic Powermax in our house and I want to use the existing 12V outdoor-siren. The siren has got four connections: 12V, COM, GND, N/O. Which connections should I use to connect the siren to the powermax-system??

  10. Hi guys, Firstly, i'm new to the forum so hello Secondly, I am trying to change the 4 digit code on a Siemens k42 codelock. Unfortunately I failed at the first hurdle; having put in the key and turned fully to unlock the housing, two or three tiny gold/bronze coloured pins fell out - which I haven't managed to replace and now I cant lock the housing back up (the key just turns in the cylinder). Can anyone offer some advice here - I'm a newbie so dont really know what i'm doing - despite reading the limited instructions which don't mention the key/pins/cylinder at all! I am based in Brighton if anyone is local and could help. Charlie

  11. Hi, Please can i have some advice on the Scantronic 9751 as the alarm wont set any longer. We have a scantronic 9751 with PIRS and wireless sensors on the windows and two door contacts (front and back door). Recently the alarm wont set. Usually when entering the code and pressing "A" it makes an alternating tone, and shutting the front door will set the alarm. However now it makes a continuous tone instead, and the alarm wont set. (if we shut the front door, we can hear the continous tone still going indefinately). The panel shows no open zones, just says "Setting A ----". I tried a walk-test and engineer walk, but the two door contacts dont seem to show up. Only othe…
