I have an old A1 PR5008 alarm system which was in the house when I moved in. The previous owner did not have the manual and it appears that the company went bust a few years ago! Anyway, the alarm would keep going off even though not activated (quite annoying at 6:30am on a Sunday!) so disconnected while I sourced replacement batteries. I replaced the backup battery, the door alert and PIR batteries but now cannot activate the alarm! When I put in the code nothing happens but if I press reset/cancel, the alarm goes off! I then put in code to deactivate which works to turn it off! Has the panel died? Will a new wired panel work with the existing wireless PIRs or do…

Instructions I have seen for connecting diallers to a phone line all seem to all indicate use of a master phone socket. I have older style phone wiring with the first thing in on the line being a connector box which then star connects to a (relatively old) single master socket in the living room and a further extension slave socket for broadband. The bell wire is only connected in the master socket back to the connector block (no bell wire to the slave). Each socket has external filters for ASDL. This as I understand this is correct, only one master socket in the network. Is there any good reason why I should not just add a slave/extension socket for the alarm and leav…

Greetings all, About 20 or so years ago I DIY installed an Ultimate with 18 biscuits. Apart from it taking as long to program than it did to cable it's given a rock solid performance through power supply problems and a near miss lightning strike. Other than the usual battery replacements and one door contact failing it's been trouble free with no false alarms due to the installation. Although I've fitted a good few alarms in the past, mainly Gardtec stuff, I'm ignorant about present day trends and so have come to ask for advice. Anyway, the point of this post is to ask what current bit of kit using iD biscuits will cater for a domestic situation with 15 contacts - 2 LC…

I've been looking at the following GSM modules 1) Texecom GSM 2) Menvier SD3 and 3) Honeywell Galaxy internal. Quite expensive bits of kit and it's not easy to compare them from the avaialble marketing blurb. Obviously 3) forces me to a Galaxy G2-44 panel (I think) while the others seem more flexible (but expensive). I'd be happy to have the panel (8-zones wired, model TBD yet) control the PSTN link and GSM module manage just the GSM, ot the dialler could do both (I think the SD3 can do this) Obvioulsy, as this in the DIY section, then easy configuration and use is always a plus. Any recommendations / inputs would be appreciated.

I am hoping you guys can help me please! I have a Scantronic 9448+ which I put in 4 or 5 years ago. I haven't used it for the last year although it has been live, just unarmed. I am decorating and wanted to move a PIR detector so took its cover off to get at fixing screw!! I thought all I would get was an internal alarm but I got full external sounder for 20 mins and could not turn off using my user code. My control panel now has the tamper light on. None of my PIR's "wink" at me as I walk through the house. How do I reset the tamper light on the control panel and get the PIR's working again. I thought perhaps I had got my user code wrong (don't think I did) and we…

Hi We have replaced the fuse for the strobe and movement sensors twice in the last 6 months but it's blown again. Any ideas why, what might be causing it and what might need doing to fix it and if it's likely to be expensive? Also, does anyone know any reputible engineers in the Swindon area? Thanks!

Hi All My next door neighbour has just been burgled. They had brought there own ladders and foamed his bell box They also cut the mains wire to his security light tripping off the mains power. The police said that the best deterrent was probably a very loud internal sounder I was thinking a Master Blaster but as these need a mains supply it would not have worked in this instance or am I missing something and are they compatible with a Texecom Veritas 8 control panel. many thanks pete

Hi guys, I'm looking to get a DIY alarm system, but I've never bought one before. I think I want a wired one and I'm happy with the fitting side of things. However, I've looked a few times over the past couple of weeks and I am really struggling to choose a system to go for. I've checked the reviews section of this site and searched for similar posts on this forum, but all the reviews/posts I've found seem to be either a couple of years old, just generic guidance on what each component does or is just not relevant (e.g. about wireless kit). Speaking to people in person about alarms, they says things like, "make sure you get a decent one", but I'm really unsure as to wha…

Hi I'm new to this group, and am hoping you can help me please? I've installed my own Galaxy G2-20 system, using wireless detectors - IR800M PIRs and DO800M contacts. Each detector is set to a different zone. Everything seems to work fine in full set mode - zones set as Final/Exit/Intruder all work as I would expect. The entry timer on full set works fine too - opening the front door starts the count down. The problem comes when I do a part or night set. All relevant detectors are configured to work in the same way for either part or night set as follows: Front door................Full = "Final", Part/Night = "Final" Hallway 1 PIR...........Full = "Exit", Part/Ni…

Hi. I'm just specing a wired domestic system using mostly movement detector sensors. Regarding an open plan stariwell and lounge layout with large south facing window area with a patio door into a bright, hot conservatory (and the only practical location for one sensor in the room is pretty much straight at this). Most of the time there will be a curtain over the patio door so it should not get strong sunlight changes in any case however I'm investigating using dual tech PIR/RF detectors to avoid possible false alarms from any of the windows (which from this forum I understand is a possibility). I was wondering if multiple dual tech sensors in the room might interfere…

Hi All A very quick question from a newbie. When should the ADT bell box internal LEDs flash? - All the time? - Only at night? - Only when armed? - Only when the alarm has been triggered? I want to ensure that mine is not appearing odd or out of place to a potential thief that knows ADT. Many thanks in advance.

Hi As per my other post, I'm trying to spec up a system for a DIY install, and have pretty much decided I'm going for Texecom kit. I'll need 8 PIR sensors in total. Main criteria is that they are as immune to false alarms as possible. Are Texecom sensors a sound choice, given that I'm using Texecom kit ? If so, I'm trying to work out which of the following Texe sensors would be most suitable: http://www.texe.com/view.php?page=81 We don't have pets. In a couple of rooms, there is a whole wall taken up by floor-to-ceiling French doors. For example, if there are 4 walls facing N, E, S, W, then the E wall is fully glazed, and the sensor would be in the NW corner. If …

Hi everyone, First post here - it's amazing what you find on t'internet ! Looks very useful this site I have a problem with my DIY install of a Accenta G3 and RKP. I have a Reson8 bellbox, 4 PIRs and a couple of contact switches. There are 3 zones altogether. When turning on power to the control panel, the alarm goes off (as you would expect). I type the code into the keypad and the alarm turns off. 3 seconds later the alarm trips again (without any of the PIRs activating it and with all contact doors shut). I type the code into the keypad and this turns the alarm off. After that the keypad becomes unusable (no noise is emitted when pressing the buttons and you cannot…

Good evening to all. Last year we had a mains outage that lasted for nearly 24 hours - a burnt out transformer. My alarm system was in operation on the standby battery for this period. As the battery discharged, the outside Bellbox activated. The other evening something similar happened after a mains outage time of approx 2 hours. I presume the standby battery is finished. However, should the Bellbox activate under these conitions. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Jimmy
