Hi I have installed a Galaxy G2-20 system, with a mixture of wired & wireless PIR's and door contacts. I decided to add a smoke alarm to the system, and have purchased one that has contacts for +ve, -ve, and then 2 x alarm. I realise that I need to wire in the +12v, and the 0v, and also need to wire a 1k resistor in-line and across the alarm contacts, but am struggling to work out the final connections. No doubt this is completely simple, but if anyone could point me the right way I would really appreciate it - it really isn't clear how to wire up this sort of connector in the manual, and the door contacts I bought were already wired with resistors, and didn't hav…

Dear All, I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have a Bentley V2 20 40 (Alpha) alarm and recently i have had a couple of doors replaced. In the process i have lost one of the concealed door contacts. I also need a surface mounted contact for a UPVC door. Can anyone tell me the make and model of compatible contacts so that i can re-instate the alarm. In addition, help with wiring the contact terminals would also be appreciated (it looks like only the red and black cores have been used in the control panel). Many thanks

I need to move a PIR and to do so I need to disconnect it from the wiring so I can then re-route the wiring before reconnecting the PIR. In the interests of safety I want to remove all power from the system put when I switch the mains off and disconnect the backup battery from the control panel the external alarm goes off. I've tried putting it in Engineer mode first but that doesn't help either. Neither the User Manual or Installation Manual explains how to switch the whole system off so that you can actually work on it. Any advice would be much appreciated. It's a Paragon Plus system if that's any help.

Is there any technical difference between these two ? Are there better PIR's, performance wise, out there for the same cost ?

Hi, I'm planning to fit a wired alarm to my house, probably a bit at a time - starting with the wiring. No pre-conceptions or purchases yet, other than I want it wired not wireless. My plan (as far as it's got!): cabling - 8 core (fairly future proof) panel - probably texecom premier 24 (if it has enough zones) panel location - c/h cupboard, next to the study. Anyway, attached is a floorplan of our house. Door contact sensor on the front door, but at the back we just have UPVC patio windows (x2) - which we don't use for entry. What's the best position for pir's? would just one pir on the landing be sufficient for upstairs? should I fit door contact sensors to the…

I have a DIY install, and I am looking from advice. I want to add a detector to protect the windows at the front of my house. The easiest place to put the new sensor for wiring purposes would be in the corner of the room facing the window. My problem is I have two cats and they both jump on the window sill. Should I fit an animal immune PIR, or a glass detector like this http://www.alertelectrical.com/Burglar-Int...ctor-IMPAQG.asp Are these dectectors fitted facing the glass ? I would be grateful for any advice, thanks.

Hi All I was hoping that someone can help me out. We have just moved into a new house and I will be attempting to fit the alarm system. I will be using a Comfort Panel - I can see from reading the forums this is not really considered by anyone but for me it have some very useful home automation functions ie It will interface with the lighting system etc. So the decision on the panel is made but this still leaves all the other components to consider and I am looking for some advice on the following Magnetic Contacts - I can see that I can pick these up for 99p. I am sure these cannot be the best quality. So if I was looking for good quality who should I be looking at? …

I have an old Texecom Veritas R8. On bench testing the Panel with its RKP, all led's work but on removing each zone link in turn, zone 5 LED does not light nor does the audible tone change. Checking the voltage across both terminals of zone 5 (link removed) shows battery voltage. PC board is stamped TEXECOM 1995 PC009-4. The 64pin IC has a stick on label showing 5/96 - I guess that's the date of programming. An old boy maybe, but very reliable ! I don't know whether my problem is with the Panel or RKP. Any constructive suggestions would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi I'm Craig, I am a DIY installer and have managed to connect everything up, but I am having trouble connecting the speech dialler. I have run 6 core cable from the control panel to the communicator but I am unsure where I connect the trigger inputs on the control. The manual does not really help me as a novice Any advice?

Hi All, posting this here as a cautionary tale for all DIY and Trade Engineers alike. an experienced audio engineer while working on my current site (nothing to do with me) caused himself some severe and embarrasing damage. like most of us we hang side cutters froma pocket. our hapless guy had done the same from his back pocket, and while crouching in a confined space slipped backwards nipping a 2" gash in his buttock, and stabbing himself in gut with a posidrive held in his front pocket, requiring a visit to A&E. he had to endure the wise cracks (oopps there go's another pun) and i's assume a very uncomfortable ride home to Portsmouth from Greenwich in a van - ye…

I want to add an extra PIR detector to my PCX256 system. There's a PCX LCD keypad in the vicinity and it looks as though the keypad allows connection of a PIR input. That would save me having to run an extra cable back to the panel, but is it that simple? I don't understand how the panel would be able to see the new PIR. My reading of the installation manual suggests that all I have to do is wire the PIR to the keypad and - hey presto - there it is, as input 243 on keypad 01. Am I right, or have I misunderstood the purpose of the input on the keypad?

Hi all, First post so please be nice! I've recently moved into a house which has a Scantronic 9200 installed. Previous owner told us it went off randomly and it does. I have the user and engineer codes and want to uninstall it and possibly replace with a cheapy wireless kit. I've looked through the instruction manuals for the system (left by previous home owner) but can't see how to remove the Scantronic 9200. I guess merely removing / cutting power from control panel and ringer box will set the alarm off? Don't want that! I'd be really greatful for any advice anyone has.
