I have installed a Pyronix PCX256 system with PCX LCD keypad. The whole system has worked fine for six months but now the keypad has developed an irritating fault: two of the buttons (6 and 0) have ceased to work. Pyronix customer service suggests I contact the installer for a replacement under warranty - not very helpful in my case as the kit came from eBay (I know, I know!). Does anyone know whether I'm likely to be able to fix the keypad if I take it apart? Or even where I might find another without paying a fortune? I'd be glad to hear from anyone with experience of these keypads.

Hi, I have a second-hand Scantronic 9800 which I want to fit to my house. I've set the system up on the bench pretty much as I want it, and it is working fine. However I have a couple of questions: The 9800 is an 8 zone system which is adequate but 16 zones would suit my needs better. I have read online that Scantronic make a zone expander, would it be compatible with the 9800 and where would I get one? My second hand panel came with no backup battery, but even if it had come with a battery I would be wanting to fit a new one, so which type should I buy? If someone could provide an RS Components part number for something suitable that would be ideal. Regards

Hi all, Just a bit of advice needed before I start installing....... I've just purchased a MDT Avanti xp plus control panel and keypad which I intend to install myself. Have been working in electronics for 15 years so I feel i have the nessacary skills to install this myself. The first thing im going to do is read the manual then re-read it to make sure I understand everything. I understand the logic behind EOL after many hours of surfing the internet and looking through the forums on here, along with other methods of installation. The house is a new build with all the wiring already installed and a spur under the stairs so most of the hard work has been done for me. …

Hi, I'm considering buying a Texecom Premier system for a domestic DIY install (after Nova-security's recommendation in an earlier post). I see some of the higher end keypads come with optional proximity tags to arm/disarm. On first thought this seems a daft idea since if someone gets a hold of my keys he can unlock the doors and deactivate my system. But is it possible to combine this with a code so you need to swipe the proximity tag AND enter a PIN? The reason I ask is because I'm looking to buy the Texecom Premier kit available online at alertelectrical.com for

Hi All, I'm having some extra sockets installed in my kitchen and one way or another the fuse between the mains feed and the MCB (the internal clear glass one located at the top of the board next to the mains wires) blew. I now have a flashing power light on my keypad. My question is.... The fuse is a 100ma 250v (that's what it says on it) Can i replace it with a 125ma 250v from the spares bag that came with the alarm as a temporary measure? There isn't an exact same fuse and the others are all lower like 1ma or similar or i would obviously replace like with like. Also can someone advise me where to get a replacement from as i'll need to replace it asap. Any recomm…

Hello! I've been reading through a few Zone Doubling posts and webpages and I'm wondering if you could clarify something. In the house, there will be 3 Door contacts 1 Shock Sensor 1 Panic Button Fire Alarms (daisy) 9 PIRs Total Zones: 15 I've decided on the Risco Gardtec 490x but with 16 zones doubled it's almost maxed out (not including the 8 zone wireless expander) Whist I will probably not plan to add 15 sensors, it's the possible maximum of an appropriate sensor in each room. My question is, can the zone doubling (the actual jumping from sensor 1 to sensor 2) be done in the control box? i.e. at what point will the extra cable run from control box -> se…

Hello. Is it possible to add an isolating switch to a bell box so I can switch the thing off when needed ? My box wiring will go into the loft and across to the contol panel. can i add a switch somewhere along this wire run to disable it ? I realise I will need to switch the bell box backup battery too. I just dont like the idea of it screaming its nuts off when i need to remove the cover.

Couple of quick questions, as the description states, is there a problem or issues when wiring smoke detectors in series? Can you add several Scantronic wireless detectors to a single zone? does the telecommand act as a detector, in other words, once 8 detectors have been allocated to the RFX, can you still use a telecommand unit on top of that? Thanks

Hi, First of all, hello, this is my first post. We are having new french doors and I need to remove the Aritech Shock sensor from the existing patio doors. I've noticed it has four wires going in. Is there anything I can do to these wires to permanently remove the sensor? This is to get round the problem of re-installing the sensor on the new doors (we never use the alarm but might want to activate it in the future). EDIT: FYI - not sure if this helps, but the wires are black, red, yellow and blue. Hope you can help, Thanks David
