Hello all you alarm Gurus Being recently retired from the firm featured in Life on Mars I am well aware of the importance of a reliable intruder alarm. I have in fact visited the scene of countless burglaries over the years and am well aware of the physiological and emotional effect this has on the victims. It is with this in mind that I want to keep the little devils out and have decided to upgrade my system. What I have at the moment is a wired system and would like to keep it this way however I would like to add further zones wirelessly. All I need is a simple panel with one code which would be known to my family. I am not particularly interested in knowing the time…

Hi All, Thanks for taking the time to read my post, I have recently had quite a big extension on my house and have every possible access point covered by PIR, however i had a recent break in whilst i was in China and although the alarm went off and the autodialler called me, the Sh!ts still go away with about 3 grands worth of stuff. I was just wondering if there was something on the market were i could expand my current Challenger Excel 8 panel with a wireless expander and included wireless vib contacts and other devices to my current system. Can anyone help please and point me in the right direction Happy or should i say not so happy

Could some kind person point me in the direction of a recommended installer for the Chester area. I have a recurring tamper fault that needs expert attention. I've checked all connections on the tamper circuit and they're all fine. I've also put a new battery in and replaced all the sensors. I suspect the fault is with the sensor or wiring in the garage as the alarm commonly goes off in the morning when the sun hits the garage roof and warms it up. The fault did stop happening for a while after I put in the new sensors last year but has recently started again. The alarm system is a Challenger.

As this topic often crops up please vote and give us your opinion. As it is in the public forum (so non trade can see for themselves what the engineers really think) no comments are allowed, just votes. I'll pop a poll in the trade area if eng's want to discuss their respective merits. Regards Bellman

My wife forgot to set the alarm to Part Set last night and it triggered in our bedroom. I knew the alarm had activated because the Communicator telephoned me. However, the internal and external sounders did not activate - UNTIL I started to enter the code to reset it. I have set the alarm and made it activate using different zones and get the same result. No sound until I enter the code. There is no message displayed prior to entering the first digit of the code. Any ideas as to what is going on. I did recently move two of the sensors whilst decorating but can't understand how this could have affected it.

  9. My panel is a 17 yr old Itec Meridian (UK) and I've got a new Texecom Odyssey 3E Bellbox, I've removed the old box but am a little unclear as to what wire goes where on the new one. Have 8 core running from Panel to box, only 4 are utilised from panel, they are, Ext Bell +ve Red Ext Bell -ve Yellow TR Blue, this has a resistor fitted and I think comes from Bell Tam. BHO Black, this goes to SAB, whatever that is, according to the Merdian manual Old Box Connections A = Red , linked off to Strobe B = Yellow, linked off to strobe C = Black D = Blue New box has A = 12v +ve B = Bell -ve C = Tamp D = OV S = Strobe -ve Perhaps som…

I have recently replaced the Abacus 8P in my house and before I throw away the old panel I was wondering if it was of any use to anyone - maybe for spares. When I removed it the only issue was that the backup battery was defunct - apart from that it was functioning perfectly well. I live in Amersham and work in Reading so you could collect from either location or I could ship it at cost. Jason

Hi, When I moved into my house there was an old Abacus 8P panel installed which seemed to be working fine, however recently it has activated of it's own accord on a couple of occasions - so I decided to swap it out (the warranty expired in 1996!!). I have replaced it with an Accenta Gen4 with Remote LCD Keypad which I am very happy with, after some scratching of head and looking at various diagrams I got the bell box wired and working correctly - however when I do a walk test none of the Sensors will record an activation - the old system had been used in 2 wire mode with both EOL and Shunt resistors installed in the PIR's which are of the N/C type. When I bypass …
