Hi, We are in the process of having a large log cabin installed that will initially be a den come office for myself but in the medium term will become my work place. So eventually it will contain a lot of Coputer and video gear. With this in mind I intend on a DIY alarm install to start with but I intend to use a Scantronic 9651 panel so that in the future it can be upgraded and give me full cover and be maintained by a "proper" alarm co. The install instructions seem pretty staright forward and I have installed a couple of DIY systems in the past. What I can't quiet get my head around is what Zone types to allocate to the detectors I intend to install. Keep in mind…

  3. Back at the panel I have the wiring from five PIR units. I connect the zone and tamper wires to their respective terminals. Now I am left with the 'power' wires to each of the PIRs. There is only one + and one - supply point on the panel. So what is the best way to connect them up? I have seen examples of where the five + wires are twisted together and just about fitted into the terminal. Would work for 3 or 4 wires, maybe, but gets difficult if there are more. Not very professional. I have also seen standard terminal strips used - that requires a common jumper between each termination point on the block. Seems error prone. Is there a special power termination st…

I have recently installed a new HKC SW812 alarm panel. It is a simple setup with just three PIRs and some magnetic contacts. If the alarm is triggered it sounds an internal sounder and an SABB. My background is in computers and electronics - alarm panels are new to me. I want now to add some electronics so that the panel will text me or call me when it alarms. The add-on available from HKC to do this is called a DM Text Plug-on card. The vendor website describes the card as doing the following: Plugs straight onto SW812 / SW1212 / SW16120 panels <<< I understand that - Reports up to 16 channels to central station <<< what does this mean??? - Sen…

Hi, I am having trouble connecting the wiring to the bell box for a scantronic 9651 with a 9940 with an Odyssey 1E bellbox. I was supposed to have someone come in and install it but he decided not to. My partner is very good with wiring and electrics. He has wired up the sensors and the control panel, but seems a bit confused with the bellbox. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks A wiring configuration would be much appreciated please A wiring configuration would be much appreciated please

  6. Last saturday night our alarm started playing up when backup battery started running out after a 24hr pwr cut. when on the phone to an engineer (at 3am), we had to stop the noises the bell box was making. eventually, all cables were taken out of the bell box (yes the alarm was blaring in my ears at 3am). after having power restored to the house, alarm can now go back online however i need to know how to re-wire the bell box to the rest of the system as i didnt take note of which cables came out of what terminal on the control panel there are 6 cables to bell box. T - blue A - yellow D - red and white B - black strobe (minus) - green - (nothing in plus) on the Sigm…

Hi all, I'm not sure whether anyone can help? My TS700 system is displaying 'L6' on the LCD display after the power was off whilst my electrical sockets were updated and replaced. The code doesn't appear to be listed in the manual and I've tried everything the manual suggests, although cannot seem to get it to alarm to set/not display 'L6'. When entering the alarm number/code it goes into all the menus and evrything works ok, but the system wont set and reverts back to the 'L6' on the LCD panel once out of the menu. What does 'L6' mean, is it knackered? Kind regards. Paul

This is the result of a DIY'er doing a few jobs for the aunts and uncles then setting up an alarm company. Very cheap tat fitted in such a way it is danger to the owners. This is part of one of the worst installs i have ever seen So think on cheapest is not always best.

Hi All, I am new to the forum but have been reading through lots of posts on this subject on here. I have a large kitchen diner with a big set of patio doors and at the minute this is where I keep the cat. I intend on allowing the cat to roam both the kitchen and the hall & stairs once I have had the alarm system modified. There is not much in the kitchen worth breaking in for but being at the rear would be the easiest point of entry as we live on a busy main road so the front is probably pretty safe. I have been advised that the Bosch Blueline pet detectors are very good as long as they are mounted at least 2m from the cat. Having 2.4m ceilings this shouldn't be …

Hi, I have been offered either of these alarm systems. I am on a budget and am not really looking for the lastest model alarm. I just need one where I can have different zones. I have a 3 bed semi house with an extension at the back and french door in the back room. I also want a system where I can upgrade to a speech dialler. I hope this makes sense. i know someone who can fit it professionally for a minimal price, I just need to buy the alarm system. Please help as I have looked at wireless systems and want to steer clear of Ebay to buy a kit. Thanks

Hi, I fitted a Eurosec CPX alarm about a year ago (with some help courtesy of this forum!) and it has all been working really well. However, over the weekend the alarm was triggered once, at 4a.m! For info, the offending PIR is on the upstairs landing, not facing any heat sources, although there are plenty of doors to the landing (-all left open!). The alarm has never false alarmed before. This particular PIR was fitted as part of the previous alarm system by a very reputable local security company (albeit several years ago!). This leads me to a few questions... 1. Can any of you give me some pointers as to potential reasons for such false alarms? I suppose this …

Hi all On request, Risco have sent me the engineer manual for the CPX. I asked for it becuase i had just a few issues setting up my system without it! I have now solved all the little niggles except getting the VoComm to work, ie the test call just doesnt call (i can hear the relay click but my mobile (programmed as the first and only number to dial) never rings) Picking up another extension on the house line when the test call is being made confirms that nothing is being dialled out. Bizarrely, if i plug a phone into the microfilter, sitting just before the connection to the board, i can make and receive calls without any problems. So, i believe the problem is eithe…

Is it any better then the Scantronic 500r or the Visonic Powermax or is it the same? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
