Has anyone else seen an increase in alarm system wireless issues this year ? I'm not sure if it's based on the wireless systems uptake, but I have accounts where there has been no issues for many months suddenly start getting random jam alerts at no particular set time points. I'm very suspicious that this is something to do with the increase in mobile 4G. Perhaps I am just being paranoid...

With all the talk of security vulnerabilities recently and the suggestion of a vlan giving better security I have a few questions 1. How difficult are they to set up 2. Can things on different vlans see each other ie if I have a nvr on one vlan, ip phone system on another and pc,s on another can the pc log onto the nvr etc or does that defeat the object Any help/advice gratefully received

This also interests me from an installer POV too. I wanted to split this out to keep the other thread on topic. Do you find a large number of DVR's provide an attack route on to the network? Basic or Enterprise kit? Any models you can use as an example? Do you feel it's up to the manufactures to design them better or the installers to have them VLAN'd? etc...

If any of you use http://www.apprentices4fs.com/, I would advise not using it until they fix the plethora of security issues on their site. http://cybergibbons.com/security-2/terrible-website-security-on-www-apprentices4fs-com/ This is amongst the worst website security I have seen from a company handling other's details.

Hi. Need some help please. My Galaxy G2 alarm keeps triggering since early hours of this morning. Just started again at midnight even though the system isn't set. The Mk7 keypad display just shows ********* so I can't disable the alarm. Can anyone please advise as we can't get an engineer till morning and the alarm keeps waking my children & neighbours! Thanks.

  7. As per the subject, I found multiple serious vulnerabilities in RSI Videofied's protocol: http://cybergibbons.com/alarms-2/multiple-serious-vulnerabilities-in-rsi-videofieds-alarm-protocol/ This means it is trivially easy to spoof alarms from other panels. RSI Videofied have not been communicative. Supposedly they have deployed a fix, but I have not been shown what this fix is. They have had 4.5 months to respond so far. I would strongly recommend if you use their panels to ask what they are doing to fix this.

  8. As many of you know, I spent some time researching the CSL CS2300-R SPTs last year. I found a series of issues that I think are serious problems. CSL have had 17 months to deal with these issues, and after them dawdling, I opted for co-ordinated disclosure of the issues via CERT/CC. CSL have had 45 days to respond to CERT/CC, and only did so on Friday with a statement that is largely spin and distraction. In summary, the issues found: CSL have developed incredibly bad encryption, on a par with techniques state-of-the-art in the time before computers. CSL have not protected against substitution very well CSL can’t fix issues when they are found because they ca…

Hi, After inspecting the wiring from a previous installation I've noticed that the person who installed the wiring originally has used an 8 core cable to supply two detectors, and connect the global tamper in series which to me seems acceptable, but they have also spured the 12V supplies from one detector to anther. Would this be acceptable if I left it as it is?, as each zone will still be independent from one another?, just to be honest I've never really come across many cases like this and if it was me I would use a 6 core cable for each detector!

Not sure if anyone has had a simular problem but just powered up an accenta g4 panel today with remote keypad, sounder went off keypad worked etc, but when I checked the pir that i connected to test the system there was no led flashing. So i checked the voltage across the terminals and they read zero volts, i then tested the the cables continuity and everything seemed fine. But when I came to check the voltage on the panel side I got no reading, I also checked the voltage outputs near the fire terminal on the top and these read ov. I checked all the fuses and these were fine!
