How many of you quote jobs on email without seeing it? I'm referring to wireless installs, customer picks how many detectors they want and you turn up and fit. I am sick of surveying and not winning.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me where I could get an old bell box foam detector, like a Viper V-Foam detector. Or if anyone had any information about these foam detectors, I know that they used some sort of optical beam which would be broken if foam was put into the bell box, but that's about it Thanks

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I spend the vast majority of my days working unaccompanied and i'm generally ok with that but recently there have been a few jobs where i would very much appreciate another pair of hands, or someone to go off and get materials etc. It makes sense to me to have installers working in pairs, my boss doesn't seem to see it the same way for obvious reasons. I'm thinking about bringing this up with my boss and it's got me wondering how many other engineers work like this. Putting two competent engineers on a job might cost twice as much in wages but in my experience the job is done in probably a third of the time it would ta…

  7. I picked up on a conversation today or overheard. My understanding is the law in regards to contractors going bust has changed. Our office is persuing a failed contractors insurance company for damages. Anyone else done this?

  8. It would seem that you no longer have to keep hard copies of your VAT invoices https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-notice-70063-electronic-invoicing/vat-notice-70063-electronic-invoicing#introduction So long as you comply with the HMRC's rules. I am about to move premises and I have 10 years worth of invoices in the loft, and the last 6 years of hard copy invoices in filing cabinets downstairs. The expense of having these security shredded by a professional company would be costly. I could burn them on a bomb fire at home but that struck me as a waste, and not very kind to the planet. Any green ideas on how I could recycle them, taking into account …

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has an old Concept 4 zone panel that has been removed or that they don't want. I would be willing to pay for postage to send it up to me. Thanks

Hello All. Though I've been happily reading topics for some time now this is my first post. I have a simple yet strange query. I should begin by stating I am a domestic customer and DIY enthusiast (don't hold that against me pls) Following a burglary to my garage around the New Year, I decided to get my double garage alarmed up - possibly add a PIR and contact to the back door from the garage. I have a compact Honeywell hard wired 8 zone system at present on the house. With 4 free zones. My garage is attached to the house. The panel is approx 6 metres from new PIR location. I began by contacting the alarm company that installed my system (house was a new build 10 years …
