Veritas Zone 5 Not Responding

Featured Replies

I have an old Texecom Veritas R8.

On bench testing the Panel with its RKP, all led's work but on removing each zone link in turn, zone 5 LED does not light nor does the audible tone change. Checking the voltage across both terminals of zone 5 (link removed) shows battery voltage.

PC board is stamped TEXECOM 1995 PC009-4.

The 64pin IC has a stick on label showing 5/96 - I guess that's the date of programming.

An old boy maybe, but very reliable !

I don't know whether my problem is with the Panel or RKP. Any constructive suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Is the circuit disabled in programming?

The only way it can be the keypad is if the led has failed, when programming im assuming it lights? If so it isnt the keypad.

10 yr old its doing ok but to be honest for the cost of a new one, if there is any doubt over its stability then just buy a new one. If circuit 3 fails next it wont be worth any savings you may make by using it.

Thanks James for replying.

No zones are omitted and all zones are programed to 'Guard'. All other functions are working perfectly.

Several times I have gone through the 'power down' and 'power up' sequence without being able to resurrect zone 5.

I cannot for the life of me understand why one zone does not work. All zones are connected to the same large IC (the brain), so why should it boycott zone 5.

Same IC different inputs, do you know the history? could have had lightning damage, idiot damage, anything. Either way sounds like it needs 'recycling'

Sounds very much like the thing has given up... not a lover of texecom but hey!!! If zone 5 is closed then one option is just don't use that zone, if it's stuck open then not alot you can do with it and as said time for a new one. Panels and keypads aren't megga money for another vertias or cheap panel (Not knocking it) so my advise is save some time and head banging..... all the best good luck... no real reason if it's programmed ok..... the mind boggles

Thanks again James and also Mavrick for your comments.

I've taken your advice and gone for a new panel - Veritas R8, considering the excellent service from the old boy. Managed to get one without the RKP, as I can use the old one. I am aware that each installer has a favourite alarm manufacturer probably for the same reasons I got another Texecom - reliability. Did look at Scantronics, but only briefly.

There is quite a difference in population of componenets on the new panel pc board along with the extra programming facilities available.

Also purchased a new Odyssey 3E bell box as that's the same age as the old panel.

Many thanks again.
