The battery directive became law on the 15th October 2009. From the 1st Jan 2010 it becomes illigal to send batteries to landfill. My interpretation of this If batteries are changed / replaced etc on site and the old battery is designated as a 'waste battery' (ie scrap) then a waste carriers licence IS required to transport this waste from the site to the disposal site. Also it becomes hazardous waste and the hazardous waste regulations also apply. However if the battery is changed onsite and the battery is to be tested elsewhere ie at the 'office' to see if it is faulty, scrap or to see if the battery can be reused for another purpose, then the battery is not waste u…

Hi all, I am new to this forum and I am hoping a few of you guys who are self employed or employers can help me out. I am a service engineer working for a large multinational security company but I am going to make this year "My Year" to start working for myself in this industry. I understand it is going to be a hard slog to get the client base and reoccurring revenue to succeed but I have a good general knowledge of this industry, fault finding and basic install knowledge, I have worked in the security industry for 10+ years now. I have a good bunch of friends from varying backgrounds who are more than happy to help me out on bigger jobs and with the little things as …

Enough time has passed now after IFSEC. What did you all think. My own view was it was nice to see a stronger instruder presence than last year. Is it too big, were the 'good old days' of securex etc better or do you prefer the size and format of IFSEC now. My own thoughts are that it has lost a lot of its specialist input. Seems more like an 'ideal home' or 'motor show' now more focused on end users and specifiers. Is this a good thing? I like the easy access of the NEC for me, but do think its too big now. I did however like that some manufactures kept 'ready' equipment quiet for a big ifsec release. Most notably for me was CSL's DUALcom inside. I also liked the …

happened again to us today, outgoing "alarm" company throws it`s toys and cancels a site instead of releasing it. Luckily in this case we had pre warned the ARC and someone was switched on enough to stop the cancellation, question is (and honest answers guys) do you play ball or sulk too? Paul.

Im in the process of modifying the frontend of this to allow members to have an extended web page. This im assuming will be used for an extended about me etc. This will work so that each member with an extended profile page will have 1 page eg www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uksecureitall etc However id assume some members would prefer more than one page. This would be difficult to navigate and manage. If there was a requirement for more than 1 page then i would host that speratly, so a member could then have www.secureitall.co.uk and email via this domain. I currently plan to offer this as a free service to 'active' members. If your interested drop me a line. I am chang…
