Batteries And Accumulators Directive

Recommended Posts

So G&P are stating their batts for panels are industrial batts

But even so i cant see any difference regarding weee?

... and that information is an interpretation by G&P who are "waste battery collection and battery recycling specialist" ....... so they've got a vested interest in classifying as many batteries as possible in the industrial catagory. ....... so I'll ignore their advise!

The directive says:

• An industrial battery or battery pack is one which is:

(i) designed exclusively for industrial or professional uses;

(ii) used as a source of power for propulsion in an electric vehicle;

(iii) unsealed, but is not an automotive battery; or

(iv) sealed, but is not a portable battery.

Non of those accurately (or even loosely) describes the batteries we use.

Read it again:

designed exclusively for industrial or professional uses;

7aH batteries can be (and are) bought and used by joe public on diy installs, hobbyists, fishermen ...... Etc. so they're not EXCLUSIVELY for industrial or professional use.

Listen, I don't want to fall out over this. It's down to a certain amount of interpretation .... but:

A Portable battery is one that is small, and can be hand-carried, and is designed to be

changed by the user of the equipment.

Alarm batteries with spade terminals are DESIGNED for ANYONE to fit or replace. They aren't industrial batteries. 17aH batteries with screw on connectors are industrial under the description given, but not smaller ones ..... in my humble opinion

On golf trolleys they are designed to be removed, re-charged and replaced by the golfer so they are ready to use next time - clearly portable and they use them 17ah and over.

I think you`ll find when it becomes time for disposal golf cart batts are also classed as "industrial"

Any battery with "vents" is "industrial" as its not "portable" (think "can it be used upside down")

as you say it`s all down to interpretation, in this case your is wrong, next time I may be, when that happens I will run naked down the High Street in penance

I was going to ask how much everyone charges for batteries till I noticed it was public, we take them away in a quarantine area of the van and dispose of them responsibly and therefore charge a premium for this process, we will just have to test batteries too now. The way I see it if you get your charges correct you dont have to worry about the additional tasks you have to perform to comply with new regulations, after all everyone is in the same boat.
