Hi there I hope some of you guys can help me. I am moving in to my first house at the end of the month with my wife and three kids. It is a three bed semi. What i want to know is how much realisticly would i have to spend to get a alarm system. I can get it fitted for me by my brother in law who is an electrician. I was thinking i need: Ground Floor two door contacts (front and back door) two pirs (one for entrance hall and one for lounge/diner) First Floor two pirs (one for landing and one for master bedroom) Also would it be better to buy one of the off the shelf retail packs like the Yale ones or buy components from somewhere? ! have a budget of up to £250 but…

I have recently replaced my old wooden doors with nice new upvc ones. Now my old doors had sensors fit into them, these sensors will not go into my new doors so i replaced them with surface mounted ones. also whilst the doors were being installed a cable was cut i have replaced it with a new length of cable. Now my problem is since doing so my alarm tamper light is flashing when i set the system. how can i cure this problem my system is an old scantronic 9448.

Whilst on holiday I had a problem with a false alarm that cost me money because an engineer had to be called out by the police. I want to go on holiday without worry so am considering the following: Unfortunately new dual-tech PIRs would have to face into the room towards windows. Am I likely to have false alarms in this situation. Alternatively I could use only magnetic door contacts instead on the 3 internal doors. Would this give me almost 100% fail safe? I would also have an autodialler to call my mobile. Obviously an intruder could make their way into the property but would trigger the alarm as they moved through the house. PS I have a separate query for a wi…

Hello all, I have recently completed a DIY install of an Accord XPC system, in order to do so I received a lot of help from Norman and others from this forum already so thank you. Anyway I have installed the following. Accord XPC panel. Accord XPC LCD Keypad. Zone 1: Front Door Contact Zone 2: Backdoor Contact Zone 3: Upstairs Contact Zone 4: Cosmos DT PIR (Kitchen) Zone 5: Cosmos Pet DT PiR (Dining Room) Zone 6: Cosmos DT PIR (Living Room) Zone 7: Aritech EV105S PIR (Upstairs Hallway) Zone 8: Aritech EV105S PIR (Master Bedroom) Internal Siren Aritech AS270 The Zones have been wired using the Double Balanced Method, so each has 2 1k resistors and the panel…

I have bought 2 texecom odyssey 3 bells for use with my ADE optima G3 panel. What would be the preferred method, to get a second power supply for the second bell or set it to draw power from the bellbox battery when activated.

I am seeking advice on the following: How reliable are the Micromark wirefree alarms? Could I reduce false alarms to virtually zero by installing wirefree door contacts on doors and windows rather than using the wirefree PIRs? Any other relevant advice appreciated. Thanks.

Hello all, I have done a lot of reading on this site, and I have to say you are all doing a great job. I know the first thing you are going to tell me is the Accord XPC is not a panel to be undertaking my first DIY install on. But it was the panel I had in my last house and I liked the setup very much. I decided to read about it after purchasing one (yes of eBay). So I'm stuck with it, and I'm not really in a situation to pay for someone else to install it. (Unless anyone wants to do it for a score ) This is what I've got: Accord XPC communicator panel. Accord XPC Keypad 3 x Aritech EV105S PIR's 2X Surface Contacts 1X Aritech AS270 internal bell. 1x //.National …

I've got hold of a few relays rated 240v AC on the contacts and 12v DC on the coil and I'm thinking of using one to switch on a halogen floodlight via the intruder output on a Galaxy panel. Would there be any problems with EMF, as the alarm trigger wire and mains supply wire (fused spur from the lighting supply) will both be close to each other in the relay box? I don't think the relays are sheilded either. Of course I'll be using a diode across the relay coil, but what about induced AC and all that? Sounds like it could cause a few problems at the panel end. Any ideas?

My house has a A1 AJ600N installed, which I think was a DIY kit from B&Q? It's worked perfectly for 2-3 years now, but last week when I ran a test there was no response from the bell box (no strobe, no siren). The panel triggers normally and shows the correct zone breached and the wiring at the panel end looks OK. My first thought was replace the bell box - I always missed the LEDs I had on my previous system - so to that end I have got hold of a Texecom Odyssey 1E. Now on comparing the AJ600N manual with the bell box manual I confess I'm a bit stumped. The bell box manual's fine, but the AJ600N is a bit "connect the green wire to terminal 20" with no real explanati…

It was mentioned by Dave in reply to another post that pictures of DIY installations might be of interest to the site. I'm beginning the installation of an alarm system in my house which I'm currently renovating, and am installing a Texecom Premier 88 - having deliberated upon my choice recently following advice in this forum, that I was very grateful for http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/foru...?showtopic=3508 Its the first time I've tried this, although I'm quite competent with wiring/DIY stuff (for example, I recently completed a total rewiring of the house). This picture shows where I plan to site the control panel - in the cellar. I've already put in a fus…
