I have an Abacus 6 that suddenly has frozen. PIR's operational, Power to control box OK but display out, Power to RKP but the usual status messages replaced by a line of LCD blocks. Everything powered effectively, just buttons have no effect - help! Have Master code - is there a restart procedure for these Abacus units. Anyone deal with these in the Midlands (Warwick) area?

A very simple question. Is it OK to mount magnetic door/window contacts at 90 degrees to each other (i.e. sensor screwed down to the window sill and magnet screwed at 90 degrees on the window) , or do they need to be kept in parallel? To me they seem to work as long as the magnet is with in the required distance, is this correct?

Hi all I have just installed this system in my house and I was wondering if there was anyway of getting a confirmation signal that the alarm had been set ? I have seen with a friends system which is an Abacus system that when he arms the system and leaves the house, the strobe in the bell box flashes to indicate it has been set. Another question I have is that should I use the bell in SAB mode or not ? I just want your opinions Thanks

Hi all, i'm a spark by trade andi'm fairly new to the site but i've been asked to connect an autodialler to an alarm system thats on a boat. I've been told that its possible to connect an autodialler to a mobile phone, could anyone point us in the right direction as regards this ie brands of dialler, connections any adaptions needed etc. It may also need a new panel due to the code being mis-laid, anyone know of the best type of panel to use that makes best use of battery power? Any advice gratefully recieved!! Thanx

2 Days ago internal sounder went off when alarm was in unset mode. (Veritas R8 System) After about 20 mins it reset itself, Then at midnight it went off again. The only way i could silence was by removing a wire in the internal sounder. The box flashed the tamper light and everything went quite. I called my service company and they are coming next wednesday to check the system over. This morning sometime about 05:00 the external box started buzzing about once every second. And i have no idea on how to stop it. Is it the battery ?, Can i disconect ?

Hi, (first post, so apologies for any faux-pas!) I'm serving with the British Army in Bosnia and I'm responsible, although not trained, in maintaining some alarm systems (C&K Securitech Securit 800L). Most work fine, but I have one problem which despite my best efforts I'm unable to cure. The alarm in question 'works', but is very quiet! It's wired exactly the same as all the other panels that are at the right volume. The variable resistor in the centre of the PCB, marked Volume, can decrease the sound, but at the maximum, it's still too quiet. All the sounds made, if you listen carefully (!!), are correct, so I don't understand what it could be. I've replaced the P…

Ive wired up the control panel, but not sure ive done it right. ive got an EL Summit 3208 and it says system not ready due to open perimeter zones. is that a problem? or is that just normal? ive used 4 wires on the PIR, two to power, and two for the alarm loop. ive set the zone to end of line resistor. i havent wired up the tamper loop, partly because im not sure how and partly because i think the system will work ok without it. any suggestions on the correct way to wire up PIRs or why the alarm is saying that its not ready would be appreciated. also if anyone knows where there are image galleries of correctly wired control boxes that would be really helpful ... thanks

Good morning, All. I've searched the forum as best I can, so will have to trouble you with a new post, hopefully this will not stray into "Pro" information. My diy 9448 Scantronic just threw an A/T fault this morning. It's been perfectly happy since fitted at least 4 or 5 years ago. Just checked out the cable resistances (daisy-chained A/T configuration), and there's a total resistance of 15ohms in the Global circuit. (Several short runs at around 1ohm each, but the two longest are 5 + 7 ohms respectively) I suspect there may be an element of corrosion in cabling/connections here? I'm not sure what sort of resistance I should be seeing in this cabling either; i…

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum so please go easy on me! I've recently taken down my old and basically rubbish Response Wireless alarm as I am fed up at its false activations and general crappiness! So, I'm competant at working with electrics and have installed a few wired alarms before in friends houses I have now decided to install one in my home. Recently I've been putting together a part list and have now changed my mind somewhat. For the control panel I was originally thinking about an ADE Accenta G3 mini alarm (http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TSACMG3.html) I have now been slightly swayed in favour of a Scanny and was wondering what you thought: Scantro…

Greets to new faces out there. Stumbled across this forum while searching for information on our MX48. We moved house recently and have one of these (rather old from my understanding) alarm systems. I understand it's the same as the Scan 9100. Obviously I can't ask for engineer manuals as there's a big thing slapped accross my screen saying "Don't ask us to supply them" but I would be grateful for general information on this thing. I have a fairly decent Electronics Engineering degree and can work out most things, but don't fancy annoying the new neighbourhood by having a poke and setting the thing off! I know the user code for it, and can figure out how to set and …

Hi, I'm installing a Texe Excell panel with Bosch Blue Line D1-P TriTech Detectors. I'm looking for some expert advise as to where best to place them. They are the pet immune ones as I have two very young active moggies. Here is a link to the layout with the corners numbered. I have 2 detectors to place in this area so looking for the best 2 numbers http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n267/th...06/e26104a9.jpg Thanks in advance for any advice given. Sammy

Hi, I would like to maintain and start (when installing my first panel) as I mean to go on by using "standard" colour coding for Alarm Control Panel, PIR etc. Could someone please tell me what function each of the 6 is normally used for. Many thanks ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
