Need a little advice on security for an extrenal garden shed and storage area (closed off area under a patio with two wooden garage type doors). Seems some time last night someone jemmied the locks on the shed and storage area, hoping to find some expensive garden tools / equiptment, but was dissapointed with the result of a 20 year old rusty 'bucket-of-bolts' ride-on lawnmower and a rusty BBQ I keep in there. Actually I wouldn't have minded if they had nicked the lawnmower, it weighs a ton and burns enough oil to convince you it really is a diesel engine, even though you know it's petrol. Would have saved me the effort to get rid of it myself. Anyway, I need some k…

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am back because the advice I received last time was very helpful - thank you. Currently, my alarm is almost fully installed. However, upon mounting the bellbox, when I apply the link to connect the battery, I get a constant sounding of the bell box. Even with everything else in place and all Tampers closed and covers on (he says) I still get the Bell box sounding. The only way to stop it is to remove the battery link. I also have a flashing tamper light, I guess indicating a break the tamper loop, I have checked the Tampers and all seems good. They are wired in series. Any thoughts pls? Thanks DM360

Hi all, I have a VeritasR8 that was in the house when I bought it. Had no codes with it and the default ones didnt work. It didnt really matter as it was all coming off the walls for redecorating. So the panel and all the PIRs etc have been disconnected from the mains for quite a few months! Rewired the control panel back in using some photos and wiring diagrams I drew before I disconnected it. It boots up and I can use the default user code (####) and the default engineers code (####) to reset the control panel but I cant seem to get the external alarm to stop sounding. I've had to flip the power off on the fusebox again till I can sort this. Any ideas..? Thank you al…

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am installing an alarm system for the first time (groan I hear!). All is going well apart from the simpest of things...how do you wire a magnetic door contact? The ones I received from CK have 5 screw type connections and NO instructions! I believe they have 2 circuits, 1 alarm circuit and 1 tamper circuit? No power?? To which connectors do I attach which circuits? and do I just strip the wire and attach them by screwing them under the washer? Could anyone please explain how these are wired up from the very basic principles please? - I would be most grateful!!! DM

Hi First post. Having a basic knowledge of electronics I have installed about 10 alarm systems over the years for family / friends. The down side of this has been they ring me up all hours of the day/night with any problem. Recently a brother in law accidently cut through a detector cable blowing the aux fuse & ever since I have lost sleep thinking what if he had cut through the bellbox cable setting off the SAB/SCB. What would I tell him to do? All replies gratefully received

Hi All, Apologies if my first post isn't particularly inspiring! - I've got a quick question on alarm wiring: Q: Is there a standard colour coding for wiring PIR's and the like? I realise that there are some obvious choices (e.g. red & black for the +/-VE power) and there are various options with respect to the number of conductors - I'm using 6 core - but I just wondered if there was a "best practice" or is it up to the installer? , Ol

I have moved into a flat with Centroller AD11 dialler that works fine. The Dialler has an Alarm + and Alarm - output which from the not so detailed instructions seem to provide output for a siren/strobe. I would like to add a simple one (AG8 may be). How do I wire it in? Philip

Hi I'm replace a Logic 4 with and Optima Compact G3 today. I've already posted about this before in post 'Battery For Optima Compact G3'. Everything went fine, apart from one thing. When I have connected the bellbox to the control panel I cannot get the siren to silence. I have wired it back up to the Logic4 and I can get it to silence. But.... When removing power and battery from Logic4 (siren will sound obviously), when power is reapplied I have always had to short out SCB-A and one of the Tamper terminals with a peice of wire. Dont know why, but someone advised me to do this a while ago and its always worked. Do I need to do the same on the G3, to 'reset' the siren?…

Hi folks, We're in the process of renovating an older home in Germany. Because the house is quite isolated, we would like to install an alarm system. I had a couple of installers in to give quotes - they are prohibitively expensive (several thousand Euros for even a basic system). The house is situated just outside of a small village - the nearest neighbor to the East is around 200 metres away. To the North and West is a large meadow going down into the valley (a kilometre or so of meadow). To the South is a garden about 200 metres long with many trees and shrubs. The street, (more of a path, really) that is to the North, is not lighted and we are the only house on this…

Early am had a large thunderclap above the house. Alarm box (intellisense ag8) sounder triggered in battery mode. No Strobes. The keypad for galaxy panel showed no alarm status. Only way to silence was to remove battery link from the sounder box and kill power and disconect battery at the panel. sounds like a new sounder box to me is this a common occurance.

  13. Started by silicon skum,

I have an ADE Optima Compact alarm pannel, and an unknown make bell box (usual gubbins - sounder, tamper, strobe and battery backup) install is a little over 3 years old. The bell box activated last night, even though the pannel was not active (daytime mode), nothing from the pannel (eg no sounder, or tamper light) and reset made no difference. Also the strobe was not active on the bell box, as this is controlled by the pannel, I assume that it is the bell box at fault. I pulled the mains power and battery from the pannel and the bell box stopped immediatly, so I'm guessing that either the bell box circuit has failed or the bell box battery is at fault. I removed the c…

  14. Started by risbee,

Hi, I've just ordered a Optima Compact G3 which I intend to install as a replacement to an (aging) Logic4 control box. Looking at the manual it states that the Optima needs a 12v 1.2Ah or 2.1Ah battery. I already have a new 12v 1.3Ah battery that I purchased not long ago, when I was fault finding with the Logic4. Would it be feasible to install the 1.3Ah battery in the Optima, does 0.1Ah make much difference. Also during the switchover of systems I want to silence the outside siren for as long as possible. Would rather not have it ringing constant for a few hours! To do this I originally intended to leave it wired to the Logic4 whilst i install the new control panel i…

I had my Alarm installed by alarm engineer & it has been fine for the last year but i just noticed a strange fault with it, When the alarm is part/full set if i come in through my front door only the interior alarm sounds, even if i trigger a sensor while the interior alarm is going off after entering through the front door the exterior alarm does not sound, If i set the alram part/full & trigger a sensor in one of my rooms the interior & exterior alarm sounds, I have checked the manual but i cannot find a way to set the alarm so the exterior alarm sounds if i do not enter the code into my pad after coming through my front door, As this is the entry/exit area …
