We are just planning a large house extension, we are lucky enough to live in a relatively crime free area but we feel now would be an ideal time to install a new integrated system (As the house is going to be in a mess!) We would like a house alarm, this should protect the house when empty as well as offer 2 panic buttons and ideally remote alerting via e-mail or SMS. (I'm a gadget freak!) We need to install at least 3 mains powered fire alarms to satisfy Building Control. Finally I would like to install a basic CCTV system (Ideally PC based) so that it records all visitors (especially unwanted ones) to the house. Are there any integrated solutions on the market that …

Hi Gurus Wondered if anyone has come across a limit on the location of a K6500 remote kepad to a Melcom ST6500 control box. At the moment its on about 15 metres of 4 core and the keypad is going haywire. Not sure if it is a blown board or a limit on the cable length...Any ideas anone....I havent put the backup battery in the main panel yet I was just firing it up from the mains...but that shouldn't make any difference should it ??

Hi All, I'm moving into a new build house and need to install an alarm. I'm looking for a Wireless system for ease, however, all of the system's i've seen need a DC adapter to be plugged in to the mains for the control panel. Quite messy I think. Instead, I'd like to hard wire the control panel to spur from a nearby socket. Are there any such systems available? Requirements: 1 Hard wired Control panel. 3 Wireless door contacts 1 Wireless garage door contact 4 Wireless PIR's Solar powered Wireless bell box 2 wireless Panic buttons Remote control / dialler not necessary (though would consider these) I'd really appreciate if anyone has any suggestions. I've bee…

Having always been a tinkerer and up for a challenge, I'm setting out on a new venture! My goal is to design and build, from the ground up, my new home security system. My current objectives are: - PC Control and Monitoring with remote control access from any net equipped device. (Can easily do this securely) - Self contained control unit in case of PC failure. (Likely based on PIC microprocessor(s)). - Capability to add a variety of sensors from PIR to Temperature/Motion/Active IR/whatever. - Capability to add camera's with face recognition algorithms/Biometric sensors. (Particularly usefull at the front door as a "Friend or Foe" system). I'm sure the feature l…

Help required please in contecting up a wireless system to external wired bell. We have installed an infinite wireless system and all is working just fine with the internal sounder. We have now purchased the inf-wsm wireless sounder module that will allow us to contect up to a wired bell box positioned on the external wall. This bell box is from the last installation that we removed when gutting the house. Problem - the wire coming from the bell is 8 strand and we have only a terminal block on the interface with 4 terminals S T - +. The interface module states that it will support most popular sounders. We do not know what make the external bell is but it did wo…

Hi there, this is my first posting!. I am about to have extensive work done to my house and thought this would be the ideal time to install an alarm system. I am considering a Gardtech panel and extender to give me 12 zones. I was going to use screened alarm cable throughout . However a friend suggested that CAT5 cable can be used and will allow me to install IP cameras if I so wish. Does anyone have advice on the use of CAT5 for alarm wiring? thanks in advance

Hey guys.. Just a quick question, its rather a dumb one, i feel, so ive posted it here. If i install a PIR in the corner of my living room, and the panel is located in the upstairs airing cupboard and i drill a hole into the ceiling in the corner of the room. Would i be right in saying that this would come out under the floorboards, above the same spot upstairs? Ive never installed a wire from downstairs to upstairs through the ceiling before so im basically trying to work out if thats correct, under upstairs floorboards is the downstairs ceiling? (Amonst joists ect).. Also, if that is correct, is there enough room to take the wire under 'upstairs' floorboards to the …
