Hi guys. I've been looking into replacing the alarm in my house to something more modern. I've decided to do it myself with a wirless kit but I can't decide between Visonic Powermax+ or Rokonet Wisdom so would really appreciate what people who have used the systems have to say. I would really like to be able to programme the system with using a databale and computer with the appropriate software as I think this should make life easier? Also, I'd like to have X10 capabilities so that I can have the corriodor light turn on when the alarm is disarmed and for it to turn off when the alarm is armed. As far as I can tell from the information that I have been able to find on th…

I am going to a buy new Scantronic 9448EUR90 as my old 9448+ Style intermittently goes off. The other night it decided to go off (at 3:30 AM), even though it wasn't armed and needed 0000 typed in to silence it even though this isn't the code. My question is can i (possibly by using the control panel battery) stop the bell box sounding whilst i replace the panel? I don't like hights! The terminals at the panel that go off to the bell box are: TR 0V 12V BELL STR I'm sort of thinking that if i connect the outgoing cables that were connected to 12V to the + battery terminal, 0V to the - battery terminal and BELL to the - battery terminal aswell this should do it. I'm …

Hi Guys, I've just spent the past 3 days installing and routing all the cable through my house to all the detectors / door contacts / smoke alarms etc etc. I've just got a couple of basic questions for you all:- - The smoke detectors (Texecom Exodus) when these go off when i'm in the house and the alarm isnt active what do they do, do they have there own alarm sounder like tradition smoke detectors?? - Multiple door contacts, is it ok to run say two door contacts from some french door into one zone in the control panel? Does the same apply for panic buttons two? - I've got a Premier Flush Mount LCD Remote Keypad Proximity Tag keypad, and i've connected the front do…

Hello All, Have just come across this excellent site so hopefully there will be some knowledgable guy (or gal) who will be able to assist me. We have recently moved into a house with a Paragon Super II alarm system fitted and there are two "problems" that I require help with although we were left some user instuctions (dated Feb 1996). Firstly, I need to reroute a sensor cable due to new fitted bedoom and subsequent carpet fitting, so can I disconnect / reconect the cable from the sensor without any problem occuring ? Secondly, I assume that I am a "Limited User" so can I change the code without Engineer Assistance? Any help will be gratefully apprieciated Many th…

Hi folks We're moving house shortly and I intend to improve the security of the home with a good alarm system. In our current home I have installed a very cheap Micromark wireless system. It was very easy to do, simple to use and seems to be working just fine. However, I'm aware that professional engineers tend to have a low opinion of wirefree systems especially cheap ones. There also seems to be a general consensus that an alarm system will not be much cop unless it is installed by a suitably qualified person. That is the impression I get from this forum and others. So, I would like to understand this more before I decide whether to install my own system or pay for …

I am currently installing a Veritas R8 alarm system and so far all is going to plan, I have installed the door contacts, PIR's and internal sounder then when it came to the panic button there was no wiring diagram and I am unsure which terminals are for what? The are 6 contacts inside the button...any suggestions anyone? Don't know how else to describe it othe than it is the latching option thus needs a key to reset.

Hi there We have a Scantronic 500r+, with 3 wireless PIRS, 1 wired bell/strobe, and 3 wireless fobs/keypads. Today the alarm activated in zone 2, even though the alarm was part set with this zone omitted. When the alarm did actuate, the bell only sounded for 5 seconds before silencing itself externally. The siren inside was sounding as normal. I have since tested the alarm and have adjusted various settings, including resetting the system to default, but nothing helps (I have the engineers code). I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? We have had a few power interuptions this week, and each time the alarm has sounded (for only 5 seconds) despite having battery ba…

Hi, Here's a puzzle... I have a Premier 48 and I want to make a zone simply chime and never cause an alarm if it is activated when the system is armed. It appears to be impossible to assign a zone to not activate the alarm, and it also appears to be impossible to exclude an area from causing an alarm. The use I have for this right now is a faulty PIR that I'm trying to trouble shoot by having it chime whenever it goes on. However I want to exclude it from when the panel is fully armed too. At the moment I have to remember to omit it before arming which is a bit of a pain. The most promising fankle I tried was to set up an area suite to only set area A, and to use area…

I installed an ESP Infinite system about 7 months ago with 3 PIRs, 1 magnetic contact and the Infinite WES (Wireless External Sounder). It's been a good system up to now with no false alarms at all and it seems to do everything that it should (perhaps I should also say [in case it makes a difference] that it's just a "basic" burglar alarm, no dialler, no X10 and no central monitoring - just a basic alarm system). The problem I've got (started about 6 weeks ago) is that once in about every 20 arm/disarm cycles, it fails to trigger on entry. First thing that comes to mind, of course, is "did I arm it as I went out?" Well, I can categorically say "yes" - since it started ha…

Hi, My 'Veritas 8' of 2 weeks decided to blow the internal 125mA mains fuse today. I removed the battery and then replaced the fuse and all is well. All voltages appear OK. The battery came from my old panel and is of the order of 10 years old. After reading about batteries on here the other day it was going to get swapped soon anyway. I didn't realise they caused problems and it was false economy to keep it. I will now get another battery tomorrow. I am just a bit concerned that the battery has it's own fuse which is still OK and it was the mains fuse that blew. Does this sound right ? Andy
