Hi Fellas just a quick one, i have been asked by a landlord to install some non interlinked 240v smoke detectors in x3 flats. Accourding to her and her council surveyor the 3 flats don't need to be interlinked, which i find strange, also do the detectors need there own feed stright to the dis board and put on a seperate rcd or can the be tapped off a lighting ring main? john

Hi everyone, This may seem a bit wierd for a student to be leaving a post on the site. let me tell you a bit about my self, My name is Ravi first of all and I am 13. I am going to be doing a school project on fire safety at school (not my chosen topic by the way!). I was really struggling on how to make the presentation remotely interesting and then I thought to myself that I could maybe set up a mini fire alarm system. In my high school we have got a networked GENT vigilon system (BS version with 4 loops I think) and we have a LOT of false alarms because of people spraying sensor heads with deodorant and pressing callpoints etc... I have been doi…

Hi again Has anyone heard of or used the above, I have been asked to go and look at a system that has an Autronia addressable panel (and a Kidde label). The client needs a call point and sounder moving. I have never come across one of these and was wondering what involved in them, any manuals codes would be appreciated, I have just looked in the manual site and couldnt find anything. :!:

Im looking for some help with a fault on a panel.Every device on loop b is in fault. The smokes and heats show low id and sounders show relay coil fault. This is after water damage. Not directly on the panel but on a number of devices. The cable meters out ok(it is wired in pyro) but panel shows a s/c with the loop completly disconnected. The panel does not show an open circuit if the loop is split in the field.Nothing is down to earth and all devices effected by water damage have been changed.Heaters have been in to dry pyro ends. I have tried changing the loop card, but once the panel is powered back up it starts initalizing then reboots and gets stuck in a cycle of just re…

Hi everyone, Have been asked to quote for a take over of a the maintenance contract of a ADT Tyco fire alarm system. It is the Minerva MX100. I am fairly certain that ADT panels are closed protocol to some extent with issues taking over systems or getting service spares. Is this true or can anyone work on the system providing they have access codes? If an access code is avaliable is it necessary to have software to work on the system? With regards to the system do the devices self learn or is a manual loop learning sequence necessary? Many thanks with your answers. Leigh.

Hello everyone Does any body out there know what the requirement are for having a key switch/code before you can operate a gas extinguishant panel.Strange request but I have taken over the maintenance of a system and a few procedural issues have arisen, namely that the client leaves the key switch in the controls active position at all times and the key is locked away.I have had a look at bs 5839 but not sure about EN 12094-1 etc.I'm of the opinion that it shouldn't be left like this in case someone switches the system back to auto whilst you are in the room but not entirely sure about this one.thanks for having a read any input welcome . thanks Pc

My brother contacted me with a concern he has in relation to the testing of the fire alarm in his place of work. Every friday at 11 am the fire alarm is sounded for a few seconds. Now they get an email prior to testing to tell them that it is just a test, but who reads emails His concern and mine too is that people will become immune to this and in the event of a real fire will ignore it with tragic consequences. Does he have a valid point and should the tests be done out of office hours
