Hi I wonder if someone can advise. My Mum lives in a block of flats, built circa 1960, and has just received a letter regarding the fire alarm in the building. She lives in a flat which is owned by her, not rented and this is the same for the majority of others in the building. There are around 70 in total. She has been advised to pay £2500.00 over the next 3 years to install a fire alarm and emergency lighting system. My point is while there is validity in the fire alarm, the emergency lighting is overkill as the block has "trained traffic" who know where the exits are and do not need additional guidance. Obviously its a big price to pay for her and she just …

Ithought i would post here as this is a fire project and the fire guys generally IMO have a very balanced vue. We likely have a project that we thought we had got rid of by out pricing. System is roughly 200 detectors and 70 door retainers and none of this is relevant. The corridors ceilings are all Asbestos. I considered wall fixed tray but the kids will swing from it. i moved to wall fixed trunking and unistrut across the corridor but considered the drilling and vibro would be more harmful. I would like your thoughts on my final decision. Now bare in mind im going to sub the install BUT i would never ask anyone to do something that i wasnt prepared to do myself. I …

When its a cupboard But what defines a cupboard? I am having ongoing debates with a consultant with regards to this, the cupboard is less than 1m squared my design is L2 the cupboard is a stationary cupboard less than 1m2. He says the door opens onto the escape route I say the standard says "rooms" opening onto escape route not doors

can you? I never thought to ask on the bafe course I was on last year. I always cable inside, but thats probably due to it being ingrained on me installing alarms I drove past a pub the other week with pink faded FP clipped round the outside, that to me suggests its not rated for outdoor use.. It got me thinking thats all

What are you all using to produce fire plans? I am trying to find a simple solution. At the minute I just get someone else to do it for me and get it emailed back and print it out on our plotter, but we are doing more and more fire and would rather save time and do it myself. I have looked at a few CAD offerings but would like to find the simplest solution.

Hi all, I know that this is officially off-topic for this forum (as Part 1and 6 are specified in headline) but I am in conversation with members of my trade institute and we are debating the future of PAVA and how it will be implemented within buildings abd the associated contracts. Any feedback from you guys would be more than welcome. Are you being asked to quote for it more? Are you picking up maintenance contracts? Are PAVA manufacturers marketing to you directly? Etc, etc. , Dave.

I have a new install where we have revisited to rectify repeat FA from the same detector. the detector has been changed as neither engineer could identify a problem. The customer has identified the issue as a light fitting that every time she switches the light on she gets a FA. My suspision is that the light is somhow entering the chamber and interfering with the detector. im stuck does anyone else have an idea? The kit is FIKE! and no smart answers about changing kit please. i am about to rotate the base to see how we go.
