Generally I twist strands together, solder, fold back flat, slide heat shrink over each core and then heatshrink over the whole sheath. So the joint is fairly secure and loose connections are unlikely and it looks neat. Is there any crimp device for joining cables that would mean less work? Something like a 6 way butt/splice or one that doesn't require insulation to be stripped (IDC)? Or is it just as handy to do it my way if I'm not going to be jointing regularly?

Hi All, Wondering if anyone can help. I've just powered up my Optima Plus system after having to re-fix the control unit to the wall. It's been powered off for several months but it seems to have remembered my codes. I'm having trouble getting it back in service and need some help with a mysterious error code. Any help - or even a visit if you're not far from London - would be great. Thanks, Tim

The info on their website says that this only works with 2G voice SIM cards and not ones that only support 3G/4G. Are 3G/4G cards generally able to work down to 2G, or does it depend on the network?

This is a follow on question from http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/41730-replacing-texecom-key-pad/ which contains some pictures of my current alarm system. Thanks for the advice on fitting the replacement key pad which is working fine. The new key pad had a wireless PROX keyfob symbol and I thought these would be better than typing in the code so I bought some Texecom Elite Keyfobs of ebay. However when I tried to program one I discovered that the menu option is missing so I presume this functionality is in the box rather than the key panel. What is my best option for getting the key fob functionality working? Can I upgrade the firmware…

Hi I've just moved into a new house and I've inherited a Scantronic 9448ES alarm with a 9427 remote keypad and I want to re-configure it. I have a copy of the 9448+ Style Installation and Programming Guide, document 496574 issue 3 (attached). The guide describes the default settings and configuration options for all zones except zone 4. I'm not sure why zone 4 was not included - a typo? Can anyone advise zone 4's default settings, its 'change use' command code and its configuration options? Thx. Jaybeuu

Hi all, I've had intermittent RF Jam errors with the RF RIO on my Galaxy Dimension GD48, and as the zones covered are non-essential, I decided to remove the RF RIO entirely and revert to the wired sensors. I physically disconnected the RF RIO from the main alarm panel, terminating the alarm bus properly. I then exited Engineer Mode. The panel noted the missing RF RIO, then removed it and associated zones. All seemed good for a while, (2 hrs?) but then I got RF Supervisory errors because (surprise, surprise) the panel wasn't receiving supervisory messages from the RF RIO. So then I changed RF Parameters/Supervision (option 60) to 'Sil…

Have a TS700 fitted in 1994 and still going strong...except for very intermittent "Lt" alarms which set off the mini alarm box inside the house but don't set off the main outside bell box...! It'll sound continuously until cancelled : not good if I happen to be away...! There's a main bell box and 2 x dummy boxes containing just an LED and a limit switch, but the switches are firmly closed (oh, and a few spiders...!) Any ideas how I can eliminate these intermittent alarms...? All I have internally are a TS700 keypad (the keys of which I have to clean periodically with isopropyl alcohol ) and the main PCB box, numerous PIRs and a couple of "door open" detectors... Everythi…

Hi All I have a query about the extent of compatibility of the Touchcenter keypad when connected to a Galaxy G2-20 panel. I purchased the Touchcenter with some ignorance not aware that I would not be able to unlock all the slick features as it really is a Galaxy Dimension component. It seems that the only function available to me on the Touchcenter is the emulated MK7 keypad (which works fine). What is a little irritating is the incorrect date and time displayed on the home screen (shown before I press the MK7 keypad icon). Of course, the emulated display shows the correct date and time. Has anybody worked out a …

Hi A quick query about my self-installed Galaxy G2-20 panel and zone status in Menu 21. I have three Honeywell Wireless IR(PI)8M PIR's connected via a C079-2 RF Portal. In addition, several wired PIR's. The wireless PIR's have connected to the panel fine and I get the serial numbers and signal strength information etc.. When testing the wired PIR's I can see the current status of these (OPEN/CLOSED) in Menu 21 Zone Status depending on the live detection. However, I do not get a toggle between OPEN and CLOSED in Zone Status for my wireless PIR's if I place a live movement (a cooperating family member) in those rooms - is this…
