Total novice so go easy. I'm putting in a small system in my house and have a query regarding the fixing of the Texecom Odyssey 1 sounder. I'm linking it up to a Veritas R8 control panel. Complete system will be Control Panel, Sounder, 3 PIR's and 1 door contact. The wiring is OK but I'm a little confused as to why an extra screw is required under the microswitch. The manual states it's needed but doesn't seem to give an explanation why. The bolt used on the cover seems to be the main trigger on this and I'm not sure why the extra screw is required. I'm sure there is a simple explanation. Another question, for testing purposes, am I best not connecting the bell box u…

I have installed a HKC syste and all was going well until I tested the panic alarm. The fuse blew and although i changed polarity in the panic alarm it still blows the fuse. having disconnected the the panic alarm I am now unable to access engineering or user mode. i have two keypads and the 4 expansion zones connected with the panic alarm. I havent "installed" the 4 expansion zones or the digi modem board into the system through the key pad yet. I have the 3 lights on the keypads lit up and it beeps every few seconds. Can any body suggest a solution. The installation manual is of no help . Thanks!

Hi, can someone please answer this question I have. Does it matter if the components of an alarm system are from different manufacturers. e.g. If I used a control panel from manufacturer A, sensors from B and a bell box from C would it all work together?

I just decided to connect it to an external //.National Installer.// bell box (purchased off EBAY !) I thought that I had wired it correctly but obviously I have not... If I do a system test "TE" Option 2 - "BL" External bell test, nothing

Hi All I had a problem with my //.National Installer.// alarm system, it turned out to be a failing battery, can anyone advise me if the sounders required batteries to be changed and if so is it a DIY job? The system has been in for about 7 years and the main battery had been in since then so it was overdue for a change anyway. Regards Paul B

i recntly ran a post in which i had no alternative but to run my alarm cable alongside the mains for at least part of a route. I was advised to use screenad cable to stop false triggering of alarms. I've looked for screened burglar alarm cable but can't find any,can anyone tell me the name of a supplier (i've tried maplins without success) thanks in advance Scott

Hi, every time we have a power cut my alarm goes off!!! We get an error message of Fb which I presume indicates that the battery needs replacing. Any chance of some pointers, ie can I as a user remove the cover without the need for engineer codes and if so where do I get a new battery from. Pete B

Got a Texecom R8 and two Aztech bells installed by previous owner, less than 12 months old. Started getting tamper faults and front bell going off (leds on bell confirm tamper too) so opened control box and noticed strobe- wire to the front bell almost cut (suspect previous owner did self install, cannot find any company with same name as on bell box, and no phone or other contact details supplied), which after powering down completely I fixed. All was well for a week, then get another bell tamper (this time confirmed in the log as I managed to get a system reset and now have engineer access) and front bell also shows tamper on it's leds. Rear bell doesn't make a peep. …

Hi want to connect Odyssey sounder to Optima box but latter has both + & - connections to strobe whereas sounder has only 1 -ve connection. Am I right in assuming that I should just connect the -ve terminals together and strobe gets +ve side from the + bell connection in sounder? Any advice greatly appreciated

Hi Guys I've had a galaxy 2-12 installed to to fit it within the limited airing cupboard space it was installed sideways ie 90 degree's around the clock face. This mean instead of being horzontal the backup battery it seated vertical. Battery used is power sonic ps-1270 Being sealed do you see this as an issue? Simon

I'm about to complete my alarm system and fit the Bell Box. I've had the system on test for a month, and apart from a faulty smoke sensor, all works well. I'm unsure whether to fit the Bell Box as SAB or not. It's a Texecom unit. All the wiring is fully internal and fully protected, so do I really need SAB. Comments welcome. Steve
