Just a general question about adding smoke detectors to an alarm panel. Is it worth adding a detector in every room in the house, so for a 3 bed semi, you would add like 7 or 8 detectors, or is this just a little over the top??? .

Sorry to ask all these questions, but being a DIY install, I'm learning all the time. I'm just about ready to fully power on and test my Texecom Premier install, the only thing I've not connected yet is the Bell box. Would there be any issues leaving the Bell box unconnected until I've got everything else working and configured, and I've checked all the sensors, areas etc. Might sound like an odd question, but I'm just a little concerned about doing system testing etc, late at night, and until I've got everything working well, I don't want to annoy the neighbours. Thanks, Steve

Hi everyone, I am currently wrapping up my alarm install, I have completed the bottom of my house and the garage but I have a question regarding the texecom remote expander. I have an odyssey bellbox on my wall and the connections are permanent +12v Siren -ve applied strobe -ve applied permanent 0V Tamper return. addiotinally there is MSW1 and MSW2 which are either sides of the micro switch that trips when you take the cover off. Basically I would like to know how to wire the aux tamper of my remote expander to the bell box? I was going to run 1 core from MSW1 to + on the remote expander and 1 core from MSW2 to - on the remote expander, however having thought …

Dear all, New to the site and looking to be pointed in the right direction. The story so far is......... Just moved into a new house (that old chestnut!) with a fitted alarm and found to our dimay that the alarm was misbehaving when we were away from the house. 3 false alarms in 2 weeks. Pardon the pun but alarm bells should have been ringing when we got the keys as the system wasn't actually active on entering the house. Anyway, the system is a DA Systems Abacus 6 and while it's no longer on a maintainence contract, it was fitted by (and at one time maintained by) a well known national alrm company. The previous owner had been kind enough to leave us an operators man…

Hello Everyone, Bit of a problem, the system I've installed is great but the trouble is that when it goes off in Part Set, only the internal speaker goes off with Strobe because the Internal Sounder is connected through the Bell output as there is no internal sounder terminal, meaning it will only go off with a Full Set alarm, not much good to wake me up! Is there anyway to get it going off internally, I'm a bit stuck, no additional outputs, pumped up the speaker volume..... AAAHHH Thanks Alex

I am keen not to mis wire this and wanted to ask a hands on expert for advice. Only one trigger ie alarm ie no fire. Please could someone advise of the correct pins to come out of the Accenta with, which input to feed on the Menvier and whether the 1k resistor is required. I am not sure about this trigger polarity slider, whther to use the dialler output on the accenta (if it has one?) or whther to use the bell output and then will i need the resistor? any straight Ive done this install before and heres the abc would be appreciated regards

Hi, I'd really appreciate any advice you can give. We currently have a pyronix alarm the old equivalent of the sterling 10 which has a mere 4 zones. The entire system was installed by a professional installer 10 years ago. In fairness it has never had any faults except a dud battery which we replaced ourselves. However it is up to its limit on devices and we want to protect more of the property. We currently have 5 pirs and 2 sets of door contacts which protect the downstairs only, the downstairs loo has no protection at all and has a vunerable window and the hall is only protected by the door contacts. Our french window has no door contacts only the room pir to cover i…

Hi, I'm about to install a standard double push CQR PAB - but having trouble understanding how the tamper mechanism works. There seems to be a piece of metal sticking out of the back of the unit and which gets compressed (by a miniscule amount) when the unit is fitted to wall. Also a second piece of metal which is compressed when the lid is screwed on. And I'm guessing that these 2 bits of metal are meant to touch in order to complete the tamper circuit. However they do not quite touch. I wonder whether it is usual to have to manually bend/adjust the metal or if a small part could be missing - or am barking up completely the wrong tree?

Is it good practice to solder wires when connecting wires into a terminal on a panel. Few examples, 1. if putting 1 wire into a zone, should you leave wire as is, or solder up. I'm thinking to leave as is to get a better mechanical attach. 2. Putting 2 or 3 wires into a +12v terminal on a panel. Solder together, or use one wire off to a terminal block, then double up there. Thanks guys, you people are really helping me out. Steve

Hi I'm getting a sounder tamper error on a Scantronic 9651 system that was installed for me. Unfortunately, the engineer no longer has his company and wont support the installtion (and won't give out any assistance) and I'd like to use the system again! Does anyone know how to get rid of this error. It just says call out and engineer in the manual (very handy) Ta!

Could anyone help me with the connection of an external speaker to a LCDP remote keypad. On the main panel, and a 8XP expander, the external speaker has 2 connections, SPK+, SPK-, with the SPK- not being common to 0v into the panel from the network. Now, the LCDP remote keypad only has a single connection SPK output. I'm not really sure how you should wire this to an external speaker, the Texecom manual is really not that clear here. , Steve

Why are these units so hard to buy in the UK for a DIY installer? Crazy that I'm having to order from the US or Eastern Europe. Anyone know the reason, or have any advice on a UK supplier before I place another order? , Steve
