Are there any issues with running audio and video cables in the same conduit as alarm cables? I've got cables run throughout the house for the alarm ready for panel install, but we're now having a music and video system piped throughout the house. The easy way would be to draw the cabling through the alarm conduit as it runs to every room but will there be problems with interference?

Hi, of the numerous systems I've installed, mostly using the Sterling10 LCD kit, I've come across a new request and I have no idea where to get the kit. I've been asked to install a system in a house, standard stuff with a keypad top of stair and by front door. But then they asked for a zone to cover a workshop at the back of the house. It is wanted to be conected to the main system but when they enter the house and turn off the alarm, they want the workshop to remain protected until specifically turned off with another keypad located inside the workshop. They also want to be able to use the keypads in the house to activate and deactivate the workshop with it's own co…

Over the years I have had to replace various components to my domestic wired alarm system e.g. panel, PIR, bellbox. I recently chose to replace a door contact with a Pyronix ME 12 PIR but my panel (Advantage zx6) would not reset. Since then things have gone from bad to worse and nothing is making sense so I am replacing the panel. I wish to know if it is likely that the PIR may have damaged the panel - should all components ideally be the same make? At present I have Pyronix ME12 PIR's (or hope to have them), Omnicron PIR's, A1 PIR's, Pyronix bellbox. I do not wish to try to repair my present panel but wish to know if these new Pyronix PIR's may damage what ever new …

I have bought a Vortex wired bellbox to replace my old one that has stopped working. When removing the old one I carefully noted the colour of the wires and the descriptions written alongside the terminal block they were connected to: 1, White - Tampout 4, Blue - Supply- 5, Yellow - supply + 6, Green - trigger 7, Red - Strobe + 8, Black - Strobe - So far so good. I have matched these up to the terminals in the leaflet that came with the bellbox as follows: 1, Return 4, Hold- 5, Hold + 6, TG- 7 8, STB- There are 3 remaining terminals on the block, BT0, BT1+ and BT1-. and the instructions say to use BT1+ and BT1- for the battery. Some advice would be apprec…

I have a Veritas 8 compact installed at my home. It had been pre-installed by the previous owners. It has worked perfectly for the last 6 months but now the alarm goes off intermittently during the day even when the alarm is in "Unset" mode. The 24Hr light is on permanently. I have tried putting a shorting link across the 24Hr terminals in the control box but the 24Hr light still remains on. Has anyone got any ideas please? Thanks, Phil

I have replaced an old A1 panel with a Sterling10 one, and because of comments here about the Sterling Belle quality I have bought a Reson8 Bell. (But then some people say the same about the Sterling10 panel ) The connection names do not match for these two devices, can anyone tell me how the connection should be made please. The Sterling10 has connections: Bell + Bell - BT Bell NO Bell C Bell NC Strobe NO Strobe C Strobe NC The Reson8: RTN - Hold Off + Hold Off - Trig - STB - Looks like I might have make some links at the Sterling end too because it looks to me like the bell & strobe signals are just a switch that is normally open or normally cl…

First post - please be gentle! I've been lurking around the forum for a while looking for someone who might be able to help and I have a feeling from responses to previous questions that what I am about to ask will require a fireproof suit and a swift exit! My parents have just moved in to a property with an Aritech CP42 panel. The system doesn't look well installed and has some damaged cables, although no tamper alarms as yet, which is just as well. They don't have a user code yet, much less an engineer code although they are trying to obtain a user code from the previous occupant (who doesn't live in this country - good chance, eh?). Their plan is to isolate the…

Have replaced old battery and control panel today but with another A1 Omnicron 7000 panel which i had as spare having plundered the bell box and pirs from the box over the years. Everything appears to be working with the exception of Night time security and zone omit. If i omit zone 4 upstairs for the night i require zone 3 as a walkthrough to get to the alarm to disarm, however the instruction book states that the entry/exit zone1 has to be activated first otherwise an instant alarm will result. I have set zone 3 as a walk through however as stated when i come down the stairs the zone 3 pir activates the alarm immediately. It used to work ok with the old control pane…

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has any opinions or recomendations from experience. I am planning to use a relay to switch on an external light (floodlight) when the alarm is activated. The main issue is that the switch for the floodlight is about 30m away from the alarm panel. Naturally, I can run a cable (etc..) but its just not practical. Another option I have considered (any not yet rulled out!) would be to use an X10 relay inside the switch. Just wondered how you pro's would go about doing this when installing a system. Would you run a cable to the switch and use a relay? Is there any other tricks or suggestions? Thanks, Jab

Have a problem with a vista 5 (Scopetronic) When reset the internal sounder goes off and BT on display. Key in the reset code and within a second the internal sounder goes off again. The outside bells and sirens do not. bt is probably bell tamper. The only way of stopping it is to enter the engineering code. I have no idea what bells are attached. One seems to be an SAB and one a siren, does this make sense. I have opened the panel and all connections are sound. Is there something I can check. All appreciated.

Hi. I have just had a new set of PVC french doors fitted and want to protect them by adding a door contact to my alarm (Texecom Veritas Excel). I'm wondering which type of switch to use. I've heard using a flush reed switch can invalidate the warranty on the doors, but I don't know how to fit a surface mounted switch because the fixed outer frame of the door is about 10mm further out than the door itself so I can't get the contacts lined up. Searching I've found a plunger switch which would just mean drilling the outer frame (I presume this doesn't affect the door warranty as you need to drill the frame to fix it to the wall anyway) but I'm not sure if these are meant …
