Yet another question... Before I finish my prem48 install I'm going to wire for smoke alarms/heat detectors. At present there are battery alarms installed but I am replacing them so they work with the alarm system. What sort of wire should I run for each fire detector? What wire from the panel? Is it just alarm wire? And also do they need mains power running or do they work from the 12v off the panel? yet again.

I've had last minute doubts about whether I'm wiring up correctly. I have separate quad PIRs in the lounge , dining room and kitchen. At the Texecom Veritas control panel, each PIR's alarm wires (red and black for my Texecom system) are taken to a separate pair of zone terminals (Lounge to zone3, dining room to zone 4 and kitchen to zone 5). From the three incoming cables, each white wire (12V) is taken to the Aux +ve terminal and each green wire (0V) is taken to the Aux -ve terminal. Will this arrangement be OK or must I attach all three PIRs to one zone? I intend to connect the yellow and blue wires (tamper) in series along with the yellows and blues from my two mag…

OK, with the on-set of spring, it's time for the old A1 alarm to go ....................... 11 years old still on the original batteries and apart from a few recent false alarms when the sounder has strong sun on it, it has performed brillliantly. Having read these forums I'm now getting confused as one person say's the xyz panels is good and someone else criticises it. I'm considering a Texecom Veritas 8+ and Odessy 4 - I fitted a Texecom before without any issues. I'm also tempted by an ADE system, although have no experience of those. Without starting an argument, could you please give your views. Thank you.

I'm about to commission my newly installed system which consists of a Texecom Veritas panel, Texecom quad PIRs and a Texecom Odyssey siren. The cables run on the surface of the walls and I'd like to reroute them so that they're hidden. This will involve moving the control panel and rewiring the siren and some of the detectors. I want to get the suface cabling system up and running now because I'm going on holiday shortly. When I get back, I'll have time to lay out a better system of hidden cables but I don't want to have to cope with the siren going off when I open it up to rewire. Is it possible to arrange things so that I can do this? Is it something to do with the en…

Hi, after looking at the vr8 i was wondering could an experienced Diyer fit such a system with little hitches, the system also inlcudes a remote keypad, any advice would be great.

I have a concept 6 system from //.National Installer.// which has a seperate keypad wired - this shows no lights. I believe the battery may be the problem - few years old. I have ordered a new battery, but thought a new bell box would be useful as the old one no longer works. I have purchased an odyssey 1e and battery. The alarm panel is still connected to the mains with powerlight on, but not keypad working. Do I just switch off mains, install new alarm box - which only has 5 wires and not 6 as shown on control panel (do I disregard the strobe + connection on the control panel). Then put new battery on , close control panel and switch on mains? Any advice would b…

I've read elsewhere in these forums (which are great , by the way, and providing me with a lot of useful information) that professional installers always hide the cable runs. Why is this? Is it a matter of tidiness or are exposed cables some sort of invite to the burglar? I'm thinking that if a burglar breaks in to a house and the alarm goes off, is there any advantage to him (her?) in being able to see the cables? After all, the siren is going and he'll presumably leg it. perhaps I'm missing something here.

Ive got a Response electronics PA4(00), its worked fine so far and recently i realised there was a major security flaw in the fact that if the cable to the external siren is cut the external siren wont sound, but the control panel will recognise the tamper attempt and go into full alarm.Seing as the intenal sounder is only 60db it wouldnt wake anyone up.Could you tell me if there is anyway to make the ouitside siren have an indepenant siren activation with a battery just in case the cable is cut from the control panel. It is frightening how easily the external siren could be silenced so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ive got a PA4 (PA400) (Response Electronics) which has no personal alarm inputs/outputs however it does have an unused led gap on the circuit board (ie no led , just the holes) however with no places to put a panic switch how would i connect one or make some circuitary which would sound a full alarm immediatley upon pressing a button. Ive already tried placing a switch on the tamper circuit however this only activates the internal buzzer unless the system is fully alrmed, any assistance would be great!

Hi all am a bit new to playing with alarms and I have found a old logic 4 box in my garage. Firstly does anyone know if there is a tamper switch in the case just so I dont get the alarm going mental when I have a look in it! Secondly it is really old and certain sensors may have been taken taken off will I need to re programe the box or can the unused wires just be disconnected or will the alarm not notice if any there is no pir or contact at the ends of wires? Third will it take moden PIR/contacts/bell box if any are broken? Sorry if this is really stupid but I am just getting into this kind of stuff. Any help would be great Thanks

I am installing a texecom premier 24 with speach dialer. I am put on it four heat rise detectors for fire purposes. However I have now been told i must have Fire Alarm call points next to the doors (church building). I know the texecom 24 is 12v - Fire systems are normaly 12. But the premier can be set for fire zones and dail out if there is a fire. I am allowd to put the call points on the alarm or do we need to install a fire alarm. Jim Bray

After reading numerous threads on here I'm very interested in having my Premier 48 (once installed) switch my hall light on/off on entry and exit. I have an electrician coming to run power for the box and would like a relay for the light so he can install it. Any suggestions on what switch/relay to buy for this panel to switch a standard uk mains light please, and where to buy?
