This is a query, as opposed to a fix - cos I have had to get a professional to fit a new battery (old one was 7 yrs old ) 2 nights ago the internal sounder went off - so I ran down stairs to key in the user code. All was well. 10 seconds later the sounder goes off again... and again.... and again...... Each time the keypad panel stated bF. all was well for about another hour then it all started again... on/off/on/off etc. this time it was reading Lb. As the new owner of the house, and mechanically brain dead, I have absolutely no idea how the system works. However there is a power switch just above the control box (in the airing cupboard) so i turned it off an…

I want to install a hard wired basic-ish system myself and would like to know what system you would suggest for someone with a reasonable amount of electrical knowledge and skill. Apart from the obvious, i want to understand and maintai…

Hey I guess im gona get flammed for asking his here, but ask I shal. I want a budget house alarm. I have very small budget as alarms go, of (£200) & I guess something is better than nothing. I have the ability to do a hard wire alarm myself if I go down that route. I want a bell box/control panel/ 2-3 pirs & 2-3 contacts. Looking around diy shops at my options there & they all seem to be wirefree kits (solar one I cant have as need the box on north facing wall). What are my best options? I cannot go above 200. I had been offerd a new yale kit 4 (HSA3800) wirefree for £140, which is what got me thinking about getting an alarm in the first place, is this…

Can anyone help? I recently moved and have the above alarm installed. All has been working fine until we had a power cut for over 7 hours. Since then I can't get it to do anything!!!!!!!!!!! On the control panel the main and day lights are on, however when you punch in the code to set the alarm..............nothing. I have tried reading the user and engineer manual but it's like reading a different lanuage. I asume it needs to be reset...........but can't work out how! Many thanks for any assistance.

Hi, can anyone shed some light on this problem. I have upgraded my old and simple CCTV camera's to a new system with Vantage VGC752 camera's. I have fitted F1.6/5-40mm lens to the camera's but get a black fishbowl effect ie a black round ring around the picture unless I zoom right in on a object. If I zoom out the black ring around the picture appears, although the picture itself is clear you lose alot of the image to the ring of darkness. As this is the first time I have ventured into this type of camera, I cannot get to the bottom as to the reasons why this is happening. There are numerous settings which can be changed on the camera but I do not want to start making a…

When I walk test or do the 05 test thing on my Veritas r8 which I inherited, the internal sounder works fine but the external sounder is very quiet. The manual gives nothing away on whether this is normal but needless to say the volume of the external sounder is next to useless. Am I missing something? I went up the house and opened the external box expecting an obstruction or something that was muffling it. Everything looks fine. Will I need a call out? Help please.

I have a scantronic 9450 panel.Working o.k until a 3hr power cut.Since then I am unable to get it to go into Day mode. The alarm goes of every time we enter the front door (zone 1 ) and is difficult to turn off using access code.Outside box is constantly flashing. The zone 1 light stays on on panel, but will go off if I leave door open and key access code. I have phoned my local security firm but they cannot come out till tuesday!! Any advice would be appreciated. P.S I would use the back door if we had one.

From previous emails I am now beginning to understand the importance of keeping enginneering codes confidential. My first alarm was one fitted DIY style by an electrictian so I had all the codes and set it up myself using the instruction book. Having recently moved house I was surprised to find the alarm in my new house was a monitored alarm system with //.National Installer.// and I had to pay £80 to even get a user code from the company. I'm slow to go back to the company as they were unhelpful around setting up a bells only system for me and said it would cost a lot of additional money to remove the police monitoring system the previous owners had. Sounded like a s…

Hi, Can anyone suggest a decent internal sounder that will be adequate enough to be used as an additional sound for entry/exit tone but also as an internal bell for when a system is part set for example of a night and the external bells would not be activated in the event of an alarm? I've been looking at various sites, they show you what the sounder looks like but they don't show how loud it'll be. Thanks! James

Hi - my stupid cat clawed & broke one of the wires going from my Scantronic 9200 Control Box to a movement sensor in the kitchen which set off the alarm. I put in my access code and it stopped and the "Tamper" light came on for a while, then went off. Me being me thought the solution was simply to replace the damaged section of wire with a "bridge" of fresh wire making sure all colours matched up of course. However, I switched off the mains & cut the (already) broken wire and the alarm went off again!! Now I can't do anything. Everytime I turn off the mains power, the external bell rings and I don't have any Operating Instructions other than the basic users manu…

Hi, I am considering having fire detectors (smoke and heat) on my alarm system which is a Veritas Excel. However, what I want is for only the internal sounders to activate when i am at home and the fire alarm activates (ie, when the system is unset or on part set), but for the external sounders to activate when the system is on full set and i am not in. I don't want the external sounders sounding when i burn the toast!! My friend has the system but is not sure whether the external bells can be isolated when the alarm is unset or part set. Thanks Jamez79

Hi, I'm designing a water display for a disabled persons garden. The idea is to have 3 fountains under a gridded walkway. As a person is pushed along in their wheelchair the 1st fountain would be switched off. As they pass over the top of it and past to a suitable distance (2m) it would be switched back on and the next fountain swicthed off (& so on...). The walkway will be oneway only. What would be the best type (and cost effective & simple!) of sensor equipment to use. The fountains would be about 250Watts. Thanks, Sky
