external sounder too quiet

Featured Replies

When I walk test or do the 05 test thing on my Veritas r8 which I inherited, the internal sounder works fine but the external sounder is very quiet. The manual gives nothing away on whether this is normal but needless to say the volume of the external sounder is next to useless.

Am I missing something? I went up the house and opened the external box expecting an obstruction or something that was muffling it. Everything looks fine.

Will I need a call out? Help please.

You probably need a new bell.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

You probably need a new bell.

do these things generally flounder before going completely?

thanks for your reply

Is the bell box set to SCB or SAB mode? In most new boxes, there's a jumper link on the circuit board to select between the two. SAB is much louder, but it draws alot of current. SCB is much quieter but it does'nt draw as much current. It's usually set to SAB but it's worth checking. In the Texecom bells, the link is next to the battery connection, which you did connect, right? You may also want to try running the external sounder with the internal one disconnected to see if it makes much of a difference.
