Hi all... I have recently come across a Scantronic 9448+ and want to install a simple alarm system for my sister. She needs: x5 PIRs, x1 Entry Door Magnet Sensor and an external bell box - simple stuff, no? I've done some simple electrical DIY stuff but need your advice. I cannot find where to get Scantronic PIRs at a decent price, so am wondering if there are other compatiable PIRs. Do I have to stick with the manufacturer's? It may be a stupid question - but any help is appreciated!

steve@thebroughs.com I've got an Optima XM panel and the internal speaker has blown. Can anyone point me in the direction of a supply for a 5cm (2 inch on old money ) speaker that has a 32 ohm impedance. I've checked companies like RS Components, but they don't stock any 32 ohm speakers. I didn't want to use a smaller value since I'd be overdriving the audio amplier in the panel. Any suggestions greatly received (and before anyone suggests it, I'll replace the panel as the last resort ). Thanks in advance, Steve Brough

Had some quotes for an alarm system. Two questions for the forum: Should the wiring be around door frames or under floor. One company has said it would "conceal" white wires around door frames. Other said they go into the upstiars and drop the wires down through the floor joists. Also, should I go for all PIR to be dual tech(?) or just normal PIRs. Both quoted for a dual tech to be in the kitchen but for everywhere else to have normal PIRS. Thanks

I wish to replace the keypad on my Scanatronic 9800. If I enter the engineer code can i then simply swap the keypads over or do i need to power down the system?

Can anyone help me? I have an Optima Plus 2 alarm system at home and have a panic alarm in my bedroom. Not only did my 20 month old son manage to lose the key to deactivates the panic alarm in the bedroom, but he actually set the alarm of yesterday at 7am in the morning, waking the neighbours! Can anyone tell me where I could obtain a replacement key? Yours in hope....

Hi guys, I've been reading up on what's been said here in the past on wireless systems, and I guess I'm just wondering why they have such a bad name? I'm an electrical engineer, who can probably install a wired system fairly easily, but surely the hassle factor suggests a wireless system is easier. Or does the added cost of a NACOSS installed alarm make it all worth while? With my cynical hat on I can't help but think there's an element of protecting your own interests here from the installers! Can someone give me some reasons why a £150ish wireless kit is so bad? Thanks

Hi, I am aware that alarm cable shouldn't be run next to other cables, ie mains and lighting, but is this the same for other alarm cable? Should each cable be run away from other alarm cables or doesn't it matter if they're run next to one another? What would happen if the cable was run next to each other, just out of interest? Thank You.

I have inherited a Veritas 8 alarm system. I only have the instructions from the installation company, which are brief to say the least. I have just installed some additional PIR sensors, one is in the same room as the entry/exit door. The entry exit does not set off the alarm, but the PIR does, I need to know how to set a delay on this sensor aswell. If any one has any ideas, or can mail me a set of "Full" instruction I would be obliged. Ian Robinson robbouk@lineone.net

A new customer has asked us to supply extra swipe cards for an existing Access system we've inherited. As usual nobody in the office can locate any previous paperwork for the system, so we are trying to identify the manufacturer or card producer. The cards are gold, credit card size and the only markings are two directional inseretion arrows along the top and bottom. Central on the left hand side is a logo resembling a letter N on top of a diamond (or two triangles) i.e. <N>. There is also a small 8 digit ID number in the bottom R/H corner. (There are no marks/names on the card readers either) Can anyone suggest/identify the manufacturer and possibly recommend …

Hello, After trawling for a user manual I can't find one that helps (I don't understand which bit I need to do) - maybe that's just because I'm a complete novice... I live in a rented house which has an Optima XM6 installed. Everything was working perfectly - until the electricity trip switch tripped. On turning it back on the Optima XM6 control panel now has every light lit except the "zone 1" light, and the box on the house has a white flashing light (really bright) that doesn't stop... Would anyone be able to give me a step by step guide as how to reprogram it so that it works again, and the lights go off?! Thanks....

Right, I should start by saying thanks to all you guys for the helpful stuff on this forum. I started thinking about our home security a few months ago after seeing a Yale wireless system in Homebase - don't panic, I didn't get it and following advice from people here, I had 3 companies round 2 weeks ago to quote for our house. Basically, we have a 2 up, 2 down Victorian terrace house. The downstairs lounge/dining room was knocked through, but has a square arch going through. The 3 companies that came round all differed and I'm not 100% on any of them so would appreciate some advice. I should add I'm posting from work and don't have exact model details with me. Compa…

I moved into my house about 10 months ago, a Veritas 8 alarm was already fitted. It has been fine up til now. But over the last few weeks the external light has been flashing occassionally when I get in, and the tamper indicator has been flashing on the panel (I don't generally set my alarm so it isn't activated during the day...). This has been happening with increasing frequency (three times yesterday!). The panel makes a noise when it goes (I think it is a constant tone rather than bleeps, it doesn't seem to go on for very long), and the power light perhaps isn't showing during this, none of the zone lights flash (having read your forum this morning I realise I sho…
