  5. In the last dying gasps of this Ex-WSM Gold (hmmm... who could that be??) they did this bells only as a G2X. Full paperwork not a homer or cash job etc... To be honest I'm now (possibly) changing the panel just over a year later so haven't thoroughly investigated this little setup; as its going to be changed for a DT and, hey, might just put a contact on at least one of the 2 external doors to the area. It's either wired as a 2 zones to get a confirm, or wouldn't be at all surprised if wired in series to cut down on FAs.... Remember the same brains behind it are still trading..... If we get the job I'll let you know how it was wired.

  6. The boss at a company that I used to work for didn't want to pay out for ANOTHER washer bottle, as the first one he ordered was wrong - it didn't have a large enough neck for the whale pump. So, he grabbed this out of the kitchen bin (It had FIVE PINTS on the side!!)

Today we have been 1st fixing intruder on a brand new build on a retail park in Dundee. Sparky on site is fitting the fire alarm. He thinks sticky pads and plasic ties meet the standards as 99% of his cables are fixed this way. No wonder we can't compete with these guys.

  10. Don't think loop 1 or loop 3 will get any voltage drop with 3" of cable to travel. Rogues! Sorry BAFE and NIC approved electrical contracting rogues!

  11. Started by matthew.brough,

We got called out to one of our sites as the fuses failed on a power rio and took down a few circuits with it. Our maglock that prevents the door from opening when the alarm set was kindly relocated by the door automation company, to the outside of the building as they wanted to put an arm on the door. Customer puzzled as to why this has caused a problem . . .

  12. Started by antinode,

No idea who originally installed this, but it's the first time I've come across it before. Re-cabling the bell wire today in a domestic due to damage under the landing floor and whilst feeding the cable up through the under stairs ceiling with the rest, I noted that the 0.5mm flex to the panel also seemed to disappear up with the alarm cables. Sure enough, it's stapled under the carpet and around into the airing cupboard!

  13. Started by Paul. Giles,

Just got called by our client as they were concerned because an electrician damaged one of our cables. They repaired it and managed to reset it but wanted us to double check it. Cable was joined in a 20A JB with the four terminals and connector blocks for the other four connections. Question is, would you go after the sparky to "inform" them of the error of their ways? If we were not informed by the client it would look like we had damaged it. Another reason for eng reset on tamper i would guess.!
