A previous customer of mine has asked if I would like to quote for taking over a maintenance contact for there Emergency Lighting Units. There are about 9 units, the building is a public community hall, all of the units are maintained units & are all above doors with legends on them. The previous contract agreement was for 2 routine visits per annum & the price excluded any parts that might of needed replacing. What would be a reasonable price to give them for taking over the contract under the same terms, E.G 2 visits per annum? The premises is local to me, some of the units look quite old, so I would have to state a price for maintenance, then a price to repl…

Hi All I have just perchased a second hand MPAT 60 and the downloader deluxe plus pack from a retiring sparky. I have had a look at the disks that the software is on DOS so my question is: Can I load this program on my computer which is XP pro? Or does anyone know if any of the software support companies have done an upgrade on the software so it runs without using dos? Looking forward to some helpful polite suggestions folks Best wishes Vince

I cant remember but is it illegal to have unswitched power sockets in a rented property. Also I thought they had to have some kind of RCD protection at the DB atleast if it is the old wire fuse type. Any advice would be good.

Have worked in a number of schools and they are all fitted with these interactive whiteboards. I have been asked a couple of time if we fit them - I think it is to get a price comparison. However, as I am getting these questions I am assuming that they are being fitted by guys like us. Has anyone fitted them as part of an overall service to their clients and would they be classed as straightforward to install as it doesn't appear to be rocket science? Rich.

Am I right in thinking that a loose Neutral will cause problems with continuous light bulbs blowing. I have had loads of call outs to a elderly home where they are in the process off having new electricity meters installed. Light bulbs are blowing all over the place. Voltage is a steady 231 & 243 VAC in each of the residents accommodation. Any other ideas

Guys Ive swapped my 2 emerald zone for a 4 zone solitiare, but this doesnt come with a backback and the wires are all plaster in behind, Anyone know where i can get the backboxes that come with the emerald/sapphire, the ones with the cable grips made of polyprop, obviously without the controller stuck in the back ? Just to add my Dads having the 2 zone hence me not having that one to use. Ive bought other backboxes but the screw holes dont line up. My last resort is to buy the polyprop. Ega type backboxes but without the 20mm knockouts, at least you can drill those. Emailed GJD just waiting for a reply.

There are 3 fittings and 6 switches on the circuit and some idiot has supplied this through 3 MCB's but the switched live is common to all fittings! Any ideas?

I have a PTZ head that needs to be connected to 230 VAC to power it. Yes I know I should have got low voltage 24 VAC but there were none in stock. I have the following connections to make: 1. NEUTRAL 2. UP (LIVE) 3. DOWN (LIVE) 4. LEFT (LIVE) 5. RIGHT (LIVE) 6. AUX 7. EARTH The connections are in a hexagon configuration, 1-6 with a central pin 7 for earth. The connections are less than 1cm apart from each other. (They are female types i.e. a barrel with a 1cm depth hole and about 0.2mm diameter) How do I go about connecting the wires apart from soldering them to the connector as I find that real tricky, someone tell me an easy way with braided copper cable inst…

So part P was thrust upon us a while back, but did we actually need it from a safety POV? There are a limited number of deaths & injuries caused by electrics each year, when compared to thing like cars, and a lot of them are actually casued by faulty appliances as opposed to fixed wiring, and any restriction on DIY electricial work will lead to an increase in extension leads; (if Joe wanted power in his shed before he might install a proper supply with SWA, granted he wouldn't have the equipment or knowledge to test it properly, but it would be a hell of a lot safer what the extension lead approach, now he either has to employ a registered spark, or notify LABC (whic…

Hi, I have an optima 2 plus alarm system, and I have installed a new heating system. I want the heating to operate according to one scheme when the alarm is set, but to a different scheme when the alarm is unset. To achieve this I have bought two room thermostats, a heatmiser dt (a basic thermostat so i can set a low temperature for when the house is empty (alarm set condition)), and i have also bought a heatmiser prt (a programmable thermostat which i want to be in use when the house is occupied (alarm unset condition)) the wiring diagram for the basic thermostat is in this pdf file page 17 http://www.heatmiser.co.uk/manual/dt/dt_manual.pdf and the wiring diagram f…
