  1. Please help I need some guidance on the phone line connection to our pending alarm installation. The alarm control unit will be mounted in a location where the builder has already installed a fused – non switched, 13amp socket and extension* phone socket. *We have an External BT NTE box so all the sockets inside the house are essentially extensions from the External BT NTE ‘master socket’. The phone socket next to where the alarm control will go has its own dedicated BT line and has been wired by BT to be the only socket in the house using this dedicated line number. My question is related to the extension socket currently in place for the alarm as it’s just a normal t…

  2. new extension to house and need hard wired fire detection with battery backup could i get away with fitting smokes in my house on the intruder alarm as it gives different sounds for fire and alarm? as they are technically mains powered with battery back up, instead of the mains powered ones whitch are more expensive plus i want to link them to the intruder alarm anyway for signaling purposes. thanks

  7. Thought about this today, understandably it's considered a no-no. Was driving along today and happened to look up at a 10 meter high sodium arc lamp post with a camera on top. That's a lot of parallel cable. Purely for interest, does any extra care have to be taken over screening in this situation?

This is a Bosch Abacus Evolution panel. One of the reasons I bought it was because of the built in dialer. However, I gave up on trying to use this because of the lack of documentation at the time, and the fact that it has to do everything via the Bosch Host Computer. I got myself a Menvier SD2 Dialler and it's fine. Input 1 of this, is now connected to the 'bell' output. If I test the bell, i get a text message telling me that the alarm has gone off. I'm connecting Fire Detectors to the panel now, and I want to utilize 'Input 2' of the SD2 to send me different text message if the Panel detects that one of the fire detectors has triggered. The Alarm Panel provides sever…

  10. Hi, Hope someone can help me here. I've got builders doing some work and they've had to remove the outside box but haven't made a note of the wiring! It's now time to reconnect it but they've no idea how to go about it. There's 4 colour colded wires, yellow, red, blue and black which seem to come from the following in the control panel: yellow - tamper red - ho+ blue - bell black - ho- In the box outside there's a row of connections: BT-, ST, TR, TS, ENG, +R, -R, +H, -H, BT+ It's a system i've inherited so i'm not even sure who installed it but if anyone could give me any ideas, i'd really appreciate it. Many thanks....

just fitted a new WYLEX 17th edition dual RCD consumer unit in my house. However, im now having problems with one of the RCDs. it keeps tripping! The RCD concerned is an 80amp 30mA which feeds the shower and the cooker. Ive got the 63amp 30mA RCD feeding the socket and light circuits. This sound ok? ....When you use the test button on the 63mA RCD, both the RCDs trip. However if you test the button on the 80mA RCD, only that RCD trips. ....When all the circuits are turned on together, eventually (1-15min) the 80mA RCD trips. ....If all the circuits are on and you turn on an appliance on the socket circuits (either one) the 80mA RCD trips which doesnt even feed them.…

One for all the sparkies out there. I'm proberbly gonna get a rewire done (started with a bathroom fan lol), maybe part, maybe full. Radial ccts there at the mo but think I prefer the ring idea (on a whim, I'd say I prefer 2 routes for earth wire). Apart from poss cost, what advantages are there to radial?
