Have been on a course for installing fused spurs to get me up to spec, however there are still a few questions where I cant seem to det a definate answer.--- If one or both of the bondings is missing for gas/water can the spur still be installed with the point added to the depatures from regs section of the MWC? (obviousley the main earth reading would be tested as ok) Can we wire in to the old style consumer units that have the wire fuses, not starting a new cct though?

A farmer has an alarm system in a barn, and recently he has taken to doing his maintenance in there - this involves arc welding. Unfortunately, the power obviously interferes with the alarm system, which "locks up" and makes regular beeping noises. Only a full power-down and reset can recover the system. Any thoughts? The alarm is powered from the consumer unit through a 3A fused spur, and is NOT on the same circuit as the socket which the arc welder is plugged into. Thanks in advance...

Ive got a wall mounted fan heater in bathroom, connected via unswitched fused spur on wall above it. I want to fit a heated towel rail instead. Fan heater has pull cord to switch on. Towel rail aint, so can I swap unswtched for switched as is, (as adjoining flat has - prof sparky did it), or should it be (as I planned before seeing other flat) a flex outlet & sw spur outside bathroom?

Hi Guys, this is a real long shot, but I'm looking for a replacement fuse carrier for the above service cut out. It's been out of production for years but I'm hoping someone may have one lying at the back of the garage/shed etc. I damaged the current one during a rewire and don't particularly want to have the REC involved in a full replacement. Can anyone assist? Many thanks.

Hi All, Did a call today in which the panel (gardtec 595) was tripping during the unset period and reporting expander loss and tampers. System has been in for about 6 months after we took it over from a sparky. It has caused no problems until this week. After checking things i found that the feed into the spur had the live and neutral reversed. There was two spurs on the wall, One for the alarm and one unused ready for cameras. The first loop in went to the camera spur then out to the alrm spur.(Wired both lives to the live and two neutrals to the neutral). Then the loop came out and into the feed IN for the alarm spur. (wired LIVE to NEUTRAL and NEUTRAL to LIVE) t…

hi guys, we have one of those 5 branch lights in the lounge, all is fine but every time a bulb blows it drops the mcb out killing all the lights in our medium size bungalow. this happened again on Thursday, and left the ruling 'alf in darkness for 3 hours - very happy she was not i can tell you. she has had recent replacement knee surgery so i have banned her from the garage wheere the fuse board is in case she trips over on all my junk (and damages my custom motor bike ). as it happened this mcb tripped moments after her mother left (so might have been 'back draft' from the broomsticks turbo i expect), the next door neighbour was out for the day and i got delayed in …

building an extension on my house and was wondering if it was at all possible to get away with mounting the sockets and switches at a reasonable height to match the heights in existing house as it's going to look stupid otherwise, i.e walking from an existing room with the sockets few inches above skirting board, and switches at around 1.4m to 1.5m in height, compared to the new rooms which apparently should be to the new standards. any help please
