  1. Hi all, Have done this once myself on a new system I fitted a few months ago, the manual is ok on digi programming to an ARC but not on SMS texting, a bit confusing, got it working though somehow. But, now have a 'modem fault' coming up on another installation fitted by a colleague. I have been through the programming and all seems ok. Have 50v, tone ok etc. As soon as we enable the ARC/ SMS it goes into modem fault. Wired correctly. Digi just doesn't 'seize' the line on testing outputs, no led etc. Didn't have time to clean start, and start again from scratch. I have 25 years in the game so I kid myself I know what I'm doing, But... It must be simple and wil…

Hi I have a fairly old gardtec 840 installation... I have one part set, for night use. I want to add a zone to this part set, but can't see how to do it....no mention in my manual. The manual says there is a user code and an engineer code. I asked the installer company for the engineer code, as they were about to go out of business, but they told me that they do not keep a record of it.... I entered my user code and was able to change the chime status and it appears to let me change the user codes, although I didn't change anything. So is it possible that the engineer code is the same as the user code ? As the chime status change is meant to be engineer only. So w…

Hi Guys, Been a while and I miss the banter with you lads. Just thought i'd stop by and say the new role is going very well indeed - I'm now playing a key role in infosec with Santander and I am loving it. I've been able to get very involved at the deep end pretty quickly and have been working with other companies as well so there is a lot of variety in the role. Working locally (Leicester) at London rates and with only very few trips to the capital. I still keep my toe in the industry and have been doing some work on electronic security still - specifically on the software / networking side and I still keep up with the news. I miss the old trade but at …

Just to let theres someone offering advertising alledgedly from the police press office. Some Safety/ Security publication, sounded reasonabally covincing except a few things rang alarm bells at he start and towards the back end of the message that was left for me, and after contacting the police they confirmed the scam. The police dont do advertising. wanted £345 half page and £599 plus vat full page, you pay they run apparently. The police advise not to speak to them at all as they record and chop and change to make it sound like you verbally agreed to an ad.

Hi Everyone, Just wondering why insurance companies ask for Level 1 Police Response as standard on many of their policy terms and conditions? I can't see how having it mitigates the risk of a claim occuring since intruders have no idea whether the system is on police or just keyholder response. Of course, is this just to encourage the client to ensure the alarm is installed by a reputable company that can request a URN? I am asking because most of our clients just have PC's and standard office equipment - nothing major like lots of cash/gold/diamonds etc. Thanks.

Not really sure where to post this but here goes. We've just had a heated debate in the office about whether or not Engineers should be offered a lunch allowance each day (£5). We have considered this quite a lot and it seems to make sense. Apparently since Engineers have no "fixed" work place, so they can be given lunch without any impact on tax (not sure if this is true but happy to be corrected). It would be great to get a straw poll on whether your employer pays for your lunch or if you are an employer, do you provide lunch to your staff? We would like to do this as it seems like the right thing to do but it would be great to get your views.

  11. Hi has anyone had any experience of replacing a veritas R8 PCB. Just Ive been looking at one on security warehouse and its only £ 3 questions 1.Does the board come pre-programmed? 2.From what I can see there are no fuses present, does the PCB come with fuses to install, and are the fuse holders already installed or will I need to solder these on? 3.will the PCB mounting holes be fit the old style casing and the new style? heres a link to the PCB itself http://www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2387 in advance for any constructive comments!

  12. Not sure if I've been kind or been mugged. Just outside Oxford I was returning to my car parked at the services after a pit stop and a bloke came up to me in a bit of distress with a petrol can. After the initial concearned that the school secretary was getting revenge by having me burnt to death was not the case he informed me he had run out of fuel on the motorway and wondered if I'd help him out by paying for a small amount of fuel to get him home as he had forgotten his wallet. I obliged and he was surprised at the gesture but I hope I wasn't mugged. I suppose unless he is an arsonist the fuel isn't worth much on it's own. Would you have helped out or told him to …

  13. Hi all, Ive just recently visited a client who has a texicom Veritas R8. Symptoms are that the Alarm repeatedly keeps going off at random times. They said that they have had the external sounder changed a year ago, and that the control panel battery was last changed around 4 years ago. I then put in a temporary battery to see if this was the problem, and for the first few days it was fine but yet again the alarm has gone off several times, the owner says that the tamper light comes on everytime to. They also mentioned the problem occurred after a power out, I have tried the defualt engineers code but nothing happend. My first instinct now is to g…
