!!..DIY Installers..!!

I have put a conservatory on the back of the house. I have a pir in the living room, on the wall that the conservatory is on. I was wandering if i drilled straight through, i could tap off the existing pir? or is this a big no no?

Hi all, I have the Scantronic 9800 Installation Guide (496334 Issue 1) Is the procedure in it on page 12 for refreshing the NVM actually correct i.e. it is done with power on to the the PCB? (seems unusual to "hot flash" a chip like that) The procedure in the manual is also slightly different to that written inside the case. Basic issue: battery failed. Replaced with new one from Maplins. Now nothing works. Nothing else changed. Yes, battery polarity correct and NVM chip is in the correct way round. Regards, Neil

Hi I'm new here! I have a DA Systems Abacus that was installed when my house was built approx 10 years ago. The system was maintained under contract for a few years until the installer unfortunately went bust. Up until about 6 months ago the system was working great, with very few false activations, possibly one or two a year. Problems started when the alarm would activate on its own even when we were in the house without the alarm being set. The error message shown on the keypad was "Trouble!". The keypad lights and screen would fade and die and not accept any button presses. I eventually had to permanently put the system into engineer mode just to stop the activatio…

Hello all. Firstly, I am not a security installer by trade. I sell solar power generation equipment in Spain. Nearly all of our clients are based in remote properties in the countryside. Conventional intruder alarm systems are not worth having in these areas and we have been trying to devise a system that may function better for these people. I heard about a device that got banned in UK some years ago that was a very loud internal sounder that dis-orientated the intruder, even possibly causing him/her pain and discomfort. Help!. I have just had new windows & doors fitted. One of the windows had foil smash detector which was broken. Also the main entry exie door detector was removed. The tamper circuit was activated & I had to enter the user code to silence the alarm. As the sensor has not yet been replaced I have joined the tamper wires. (yellow & blue) the sensor wires (red & black) and two other wires which were already joined (white & green). The door sensor wires have been joined (blue & yellow). I am unable to get the system to set & the PIR sensors are not working (no red light). Can anyone advise. Are there any reasonably priced engineers in my area. Re…

Hi All, I've just moved into a new house which has a rebel 8/9 installed but whoever the cowboy installer was thought it was ok practice to run a cable out of the ceiling 4 inches from the wall and straight into the floor 4 inches away from wall!!!! I therefore need to re-run the cable behind the wall. The cable runs from the keypad nr my front door, to the main control panel in my airing cupboard. I have traced the cable and can see the 5 wires connected but my question is can I just disconnect the 5 wires or will this set off the alarm? If it will set off the alarm how do i disconnect it??? Hi there, new to the forums here, had a quick search but don't think the answer has already been asked/posted. Just installed a Powermax+, so far no probs. I decided to go down the wired bell route as this is replacing an old (very!!!) basic wired system, and the bell wiring is there. The suppliers of the kit gave me wiring instructions for the bell which I've followed, but there is a problem. As you probably know the Texecom bell has a hold off mode when you are installing/servicing it. As per their instructions wired at bell end, then the panel , powered from panel and it sounded for the 5 secs and left hand led flashes indicating hold off mode. So far all as per …

Hi all, I have a veritas 8C panel that doesnt seem to respond to any engineer codes or set ups. It also doesnt seem to power the PIRs anymore. In essence I think its knackered! How compatible are the PIRs, bellbox and door contacts between panels..? I'd like to buy a new control panel but I am unsure if the PIRs etc will be ok. They are pretty basic looking with a live, nuetral, control wire at present. Any advice appreciated. Rolf
