Hi all, I have setup a basic home alarm system which finally involved an ADE Reson8 bell box. I am a bit confused re the installation of this part. The box is on the wall and the cable wired in correctly as per the instructions. Now the in-built timer has 4 modes of Test, 20min, 10min and 5min. Normally alarm lenghts are configured by the control panel, however this is a failsafe for say if the alarm is interfered with. When I connect the battery alarm goes off for 5 secs as it shoudl, however when i move the jumper to say 10 min it continued to go off. What I can't understand is that there must be a way to setup the alarm box without having to listen to 10 minutes of…

  2. Hi all I was looking to get one of these http://www.alertelectrical.com/Burglar-Ala...--Kit-KIT10.asp However it is probably a bit over the top for what we need.............I liked the idea of this panel because of the speech and text dialling addition and also the fanciness of flush mount remote keypad and keytags But it is probably a bit too much for an average 3 bedroom semi - thats also in the middle or redecoration Im now looking at something like this http://www.brewtime.co.uk/product-detail.asp?d=995 A bit more reasonable.........and probably easier to install Is it expandable at all......ie can you add one of those listenening devices to dial in and list…

Hi Intelligent people. I am an electronics engineer & need to install an alarm to my house. I want to go for a wired one as I do not want to keep changing batteries & once it is in who needs to change anything (never understood the need for wireless alarms...... apart from getting airborne interference...) I was looking at the Intellisense 800L package from CPC. Is this any good? My only experience with alarms is servicing my parents Racal system. Any constructive recommendations are welcomed. Keep up the good work.

  4. Someone on another forum said that they installed an alarm with a spur to a socket. Mum's house has JUST been redecorated (carpets due in a few days) so we don't want to go smashing holes through things. Does anyone else have experience of powering from a spur to the nearest socket? Will the alarm go off if a hoover is turned on?

  5. I'm about to rip out an old Texecom Veritas 8C from my house that I'm working on. It's going to be replaced eventually once the building work is finished. My concern is noise from the belbox. When I open the panel I know the tamper will set the bellbox ringing. Hopefully this will stop within 15 mins but... How long would I be looking at it ringing if there wasn't a timeout set until the internal battery died? Also can I make the bellbox stop ringing without either putting in a new panel yet or accessing the bellbox (no ladders on site yet)? all.

Hi my brother has just moved into a house that had an alarm fitted into it...............have carryed out a service based on your guidelines and have found that the back up battery in the panel needs replacing.............was going to do it anyway to be honest.........but I also discovered that when I crashed the panel to default the codes the outside bell did not go off...................it has flashing leds that work and it works when its in full alarm but it appears that the back up battery in the bellbox is also a dud.....................basically I need to know if I can just replace the battery in the bellbox or if I need to replace the entire bell box..............n…

Hi I hope some of you can assist me out there !! I have recently installed the BT VP1000 Home Monitor system and have found that the pet tollerant PIR's do not work very well - or is it just me ?!?!?!? I have read about these PIR's and they say they will ignore anything below 1m in height under 35kgish. But I have been crawlingaround my house for the last 3 days and they do not pick me up either. I have adjusted the sensors as there is a screw on the pcb to move the sensor into the detection range but this still does not detect properly. Can I mount the alarm units upside down for better detection ? OR shall I just rip out this unit and get something better ? Just fo…

Hi all, I'm new here so firstly hello! I have installed an Accenta G3 mini alarm and RKP. The setup currently has one magnetic switch on the front door and two PIR's. The alarm operates correctly with the front door switch. I am having problems getting the PIR's to work. The PIR's are connected and the zone is turned on in the control panel and set as a security zone. However when I set the alarm and test the zone it does not set off the alarm. However when the alarm is off and I do either the 'walk test' or the 'chime' functions, on walking past the zone it works correctly and recognises me setting it off. Also, if I set the control panel to think the PIR is a diffe…

Hi, I am looking for an alarm that will go off if a door is propped open. The closest I have found to my needs is the Exit Stopper from STI, but the delay isn't quite long enough. Specifically I would like: Mains Powered Reasonably Loud ~ 100 db Magnetic switch A delay of around 1 minute after the door is opened before the alarm goes off (but preferably adjustable) Continuous sounding until the door is closed Reset on door close Reasonably vandal resistant. Anyone know of anything that would fit the bill, in the 100 pound range. thanks Alex

OOPS! Sorry I *thought* I was vague enough with my post about defaulting the panel. My bad! I guess even a little bit of information could be usefull to the wrong type. Once again - Sorry! And to answer a few questions: No, the Galaxy panel is installed at my mother's house, I live elsewhere (I moved out years ago) and MY house has the Optima panel installed. I Don't know if it was a dealeship that *installed* the system, but it was ordered from //.National Installer.// directly, and always serviced / fixed by guys driving //.National Installer.// vans, who I assume are directly affiliated with //.National Installer.// (unless the dealerships are allowed full //.Na…

I need to have an //.National Installer.// installed Galaxy (16 / 16+ I belive) panel defaulted to remove the engineers code and change the dial out number from the ARC number. system is about 4 years old (battery is only 2 years old - have a few new ones anyway) **I'm not asking for codes or defaulting info** The system is no longer under //.National Installer.//, has been out of contract due to cancelation for well over a year due to a piss poor install job (high number of false smoke / CO alarms on one of two installed smoke/CO sensors, since fitting and various other faults). I couldn't belive the wiring job, it was BAD! - Wires were twisted together with paper M…
