Hey all, I am looking for a good quality, easy to install, set-up and use wireless burgler alarm system. I have a cat as well so that has to be taken into consideration. I'm thinking of installing it myself. The cat has free roam of the house so I'm just looking for something which protects the front and back doors really. Perhaps something which can set-off if the windows are opened as well but I'll aim to keep the internal doors open. I've found this system, which seems a good price. Just wondering what you guys think of it:- http://www.alertelectrical.com/Burglar-Ala...-INF-KITWES.asp Any help, hints, tips, ideas would be gratefully recieved. Thanks,

Hello all, I have recently moved to my current address. The house comes readily installed with a Optima XL6 control panel, which is situated at the foot of the stairs, the stairs being in the middle of the house. MY questions are:- Can i install an additional keypad to work with the Optima, by the front door? and if so, how easy? Can i change the exsisting PIR's for pet PIR's? and again, if so, how easy? Many thanks, Cyber

Hi, I've had the 500r system for around 17 months now...long time on one set of batteries for each device. The door contact batteries have been changed with no probs, put on changing 2 of the PIRS I notice the LED now comes on with every movement, flashing 4 or 5 times... Ive put the system into test and it sends the signal to report the alarm/pir being triggered so the system works, but why oh why does the PIR LED now flash all the time? I have one PIR still to do, in the lounge, and dont want a disco so how do I stop it? The only thing I can think of is that I set the tamper off when I changed the batteries, although the 500r panel has always reset no probs. Will …

Put this topic in the DIY section but reposting as some of you guys will have more knowledge thanks Hi: Bought an SD1 + Speech Dialler to add to my system I fitted a few years ago. Looking at the manual theres options for alarm, fire, PA etc with connections A,B,C for each trigger I just need it to send a message when theres an alarm activation, the unit itself has Trig A, Trig B and Trig C So if I just need C for alarm is it just connected to B or bell output in the alarm panel and the 12V and 0V supply, is that it just the 3 connections and 2 for the phone or am i missing something Theres also an Abort connection on the unit beside A, B and C but nothing about it i…

Hello, There are 2 things that I am trying to do, and am wondering if anyone can offer advice. 1. I am trying to set up my doorbell to chime through the alarm system. Is this possible? How can it be done easily? 2. I would like to be able to assign my downstairs, upstairs, and outside detectors to seperate areas. I have three keypads and would like to enable arming with a no more than one or 2 keypresses. Is this possible? On 2 keypads the quick arm would arm all areas using the standard exit terminator (door contact). On the 3rd keypad, which is near the bedrooms, I would like to be able to arm downstairs and outside areas instantly (with no exit tone), a…

My last question (fingers crossed) I have installed all of my Veritas R8 alarm system apart from the external bell box. Will the alarm function correctly without this as I have an internal sounder & wanted to make sure the PIR's were deffinately pet imune before annoying all the neighbours? This is the easiest way I can think of checking it as it obviously needs to be set (I can't ask the cats to do a walk test for me!) and it'll probably be a little while until I get round to fitting the external bell anyway.

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and just trying to get up-to-speed before I choose and fit my own system. We are just about to refurbish our flat and this seems like an ideal time to fit an alarm. I was thinking of a Texecom panel but could do with your thoughts on PIR's. The rooms in the flat are pretty big and have 14.5ft ceilings. Also the lounge is south facing and gets pretty hot in summer, will this cause false alarms for the PIR's? I had read this somewhere. Anyway, your thoughts on what device would be best would be appreciated. Many thanks, Scott

Hiya, I seem to be a bit stuck and was hoping someone maybe able to help me get my alarm system back up and running. Basically - I've just finished renovating a house which had an old alarm installed in 1996 - it seems to be a Castle Care-Tech 1600 system. There is a door contact and 4 x PIRs each in their own zones. It all worked fine when I moved in about 9 months ago but I took down all the old dated and dirty PIRs when replastering and have replaced them with I think units from Activ8 (or Active8?) which seemed neater. I wired these up how I thought the existing ones were done, but now everytime I try and set the alarm I get 'F' then '1' flash up on the keypad dis…

We inherited a Scantronic 9800 with our new house. This afternoon the keypad alarm went off repeatedly with the code bF flashing. We have now turned off the mains electric to the alarm, now the power light and the code Lb are flashing. We understand this means the battery needs replacing - can we do this ourselves? Is the alarm likely to go off again when the battery drains further or not? Basically we don't want the alarm going off every five minutes until we (or an engineer) replace the battery. Many thanks in advance.

How compatable are different brands of mcp and heat/smoke detectors? From what I can make out, the older mcps have no resistor and either cause an open or closed circuit when activated. The later ones have resistors of either 470 0hms or 680 ohms. When triggered is this resistance connected across the positve and negative on the radial circuit? I have spoken to Alto support who tell me that Menvier mcps are not compatible with Alto despite being made by the same company. Why is this? Can anybody recommend a web site or book that explains the basic circuitry. Althogh competent in testing systems my knowledge of the working princples is somewhat patchy. Many thanks
