Morning all. I thought you only required keyholders for monitored-alarms. Do you require keyholders for all types of audible alarms? ...or is it only if the alarm is going to sound for longer than a certain time period? . John.

I have recently purchased an 11 year old house with an existing Gardtec 800 system with no indication of who installed it. The system is switched off, but I noticed the backup battery is leaking slightly from the bottom of the control panel. Is it possible just to replace the battery or would the entire control panel (and presumably the remote keypad) need replacing. Can it be replaced with another make and use the existing wiring. If so what would you recommend, either professionally installed or by a very competent DIYer.

I have replaced my father-in-laws control panel with a veritas 8 compact unit the old one had stopped working. Everthing is working fine except the pir I am trying to use as and entry/exit zone. when u set the alarm it bleeps whilst you exit but when you re-enter the pir detects you but does not trigger the entry sounder. I have set the zone as both a guard zone and a inhibited entry and in both these modes it triggers the alarm. Why is it not working as an exit/entry ???? Thanks simon

Hi All, My husband is currently an alarm engineer for a large firm would like to start my own business, i know we will have to start it off on the weekends at first to scope what interest there is, etc. However, there are a few niggleing questions i need to ask first. 1. His employment contract with his current employer does not mention anything whatsoever about private work, however, we are wondering if there is any way they can find out, and if they did, if it would be seen as misconduct? Also he has to do callout which may prevent him from doing any other work on the weekend, although luckily most problems are dealt with over the phone. He is their only engineer …

Evening all. Just wanted to run this by people who know what they are talking about! I've had two quotes so far. One was laughable by taking a whopping 6 minutes to arrive at! The other involves the following: BS 4737 + DD243 Compliance 4 Bedroom detached house Wired install Bells only Company known from friend Hall: Keypad with display, proximity reader, 4 settings Hall: Internal sounder Garage: Control panel Garage: Heavy duty reed switch Main Door: Magnetic reed switch Hall: Quad passive infra-red detector Lounge: Quad passive infra-red + microwave (room sees a lot of sun) Landing: Quad passive infra-red detector (all upper doors from landing) Front: S…

I have a Veritas 8c that has stopped working properly after a couple power cuts. The chime on the front door has stopped and I cannot re-arm. I also cannot set the alarm now....it seems to not be recognising the zones like it used to. I've read on here that engineers will probably charge £30 give or take depending on the quality of tea and biscuits supplied to repair such things. Every company I've called has a minimum call oput of anything from 70 to £100 for the first hour. Is there anyone out there that can help me in Streatham South London? Call Neil 07711 293469.

Would it be normal for a small/medium sized moth to be able to set off a PIR? The alarm went off just as we went to bed and upon entering the room/zone which had been triggered there was a moth sitting next to the PIR. I assume that it just happened to fly next to the PIR so to the detector it looked like a big moving object in the room. Is there anything I can do to prevent false alarms like this? Thanks.

Hi, I have been having problems with our alarm system for quite a while now. First off let me stress that I didn't install it, it was installed by the previous owner of our house. So sadly, I dont know the system back to front like I hope you guys do!! Basically, I want to disconnect the system - it can stay as makes a usefull deterant in itself - but we are having trouble with the internal sounder going off (at rare but far to frequent to laugh off) moments. The internal sounder is now wrapped up in a bout a meter thicknes of bathroom towels!! Who would have thought that tiny box could make so much bloody noise! Now, should i disconnect the alarm from the backup batt…
