Guys, Going for fire design, install verify and commissioning & maintenance We have an inspection in Sept but the only issue i can foresee is that our team is quite small, myself and an apprentice, as well as a full time office lady doing £130-£140k a year. We have management system etc etc. Lets say there are few issues they found what would be their action? Would we be given chance to recrify or it would simply be “nope, youre not in!” Grrr, stressed our with this thing!!

I'm hoping to get accredited in the next year or two, most likely with SSAIB. Are there any qualifications that are essential to have? The pack just says competent and conversant with the standards. Lots on Tavcom but I'm not sure what I need. Also how do they calculate financial criteria? Is it 3 months operating costs in the bank etc? If anyone has any advice or templates of forms etc I'd be very grateful.

I'm after a freelance consultant to advise us on our processes and procedures from top to bottom. In short - an NSI audit before the audit If anyone is interested send me a message.

Starting to get the "sweats" ahead of our inspection next week. Is it just me but I find it a little strange that we are being inspected on something where no real prior knowledge exists. We make the assumption that our forms are correct and our procedures are solid but we won't know until we get inspected. Surely it would be more helpful to use the first visit as guidance and then carry out "inspections" to demonstrate our adherence to the guidance? Anyway, does anyone have any good tips in how we can prepare for our first audit? It would be good to know what to expect and also things that caught you by surprise. Thanks.

So at the moment we use a handover pack that includes the following On site we issue and leave, Manual Record of operation checks (ROC) Historical Log Record book We take back to the office, Signed Completion cert installation sequence plan (whos done what on site eg panel/walk test etc) Copy of ROC Keyholders (if not setup before site visit) Corrective sheet (if needed due to any disconnections ie we add police if new connection/URN etc) Then, these get scanned in, and the customer folder is created/updated. Is there anything to say exactly what documents are needed? This system has been in place forever, so just trying to streamline/u…

Well, after losing quite another large install to a the 3 lettered regional a few weeks ago, I have decided to go for it. I've just lost it on the basis of no NSI / SSAIB, and whats worse, it was worth £24k for combined CCTV,Intruder & Access I contacted the SSAIB last week, We've had Paul Fathers at our office for a few hours this morning, Quite happy to say that all went well on the paperwork side, Just 3 small items to take care of and thats sorted. I was pulled up on our Photo ID badges aswell, All details are fine, We just have no engineers signature on them. They have now been ordered from our supplier this afternoon. Also had to register our office with…

I have finally had a response from dudley MBC planning dept regarding this. It is their view that a logo on a backlit bellbox is indeed a backlit sign and will require planning permission on a case by case basis. Some domestics will be permitted without planning consent but commercials and domestics in low light areas or light pollution areas will require consent. I am awaiting a written response and will update on this. But in dudley at least if you want to fit one of these you need to check each one with the planning dept first. Glad we dont use them!

OK, so I've decided the time is right to join an inspectorate and chosen SSAIB to aim for. I'd totally admit here is no logical reason I've chosen them over NSI, it just feels right for a smaller (micro?) business. At the end of the day (it gets dark?), but also I suppose we are all personally responsible for the standard and workmanship of our installations, and (sadly) the most positive thing the inspectorate can do for US is provide URNs. When you see the sort of sales tactics I saw on Watchdog last year, and then learn they are SSAIB and haven't been kicked out, you lose faith a bit. I've been keeping up with the regs whilst I've been away, pretty comfort…

Hi guys, i'm hoping to start trading soon but i'm just trying to get everything in order at the moment and work out which trade associations & professional bodies I should really be aiming to be associated with?. (I primarily do Access Control, CCTV, Intruder, Entry Systems at the moment). 1, which of these are most important for someone thats just starting out; I keep reading conflicting information. -The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) -National Security Inspectorate (NSI) -Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) -Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) 2, If you already associated with one of the bodies above, can you let me…
