Hello everyone, I've found this site after looking for information on a Texecom odyssey 3 bell box which i wanted to change to from my Responce Alarms unit, after reading some of the comments regarding these systems (Mine being the PA8) i've decided to upgrade. I have wired the system myself with all the cables chased into the walls so i need a system that will run on the same core cable (Believe it to 6 core) The zones that i am using at the moment are : Front door contacts Rear door contacts Living room PIR Kitchen PIR Landing PIR Bedroom 1 and 2 PIR ( the reason being there is easy access to the windows) Garage PIR Garage contact The systems i have been loo…

hi i would just like to ask what is the point of getting an alarm? Nowadays when you hear an alarm going off, nobody takes any notice, so what is the point of spending several hundreds of pounds on a top of the range alarm system when nobody takes any notice of them????? Thanks

I am about to install a Premier 48 in a 4 bed house plus detached garage. I intend to run the cable to the garage pir/door switch in the same conduit as the mains from the garage (yes I did say from!) because its the simplest route. Normally when you arm the garage I wouldn't worry about any change in mains to the garage as it would be empty. But in this house the mains supply to the whole house goes first to the garage and then onto the house. so.. If you left the house armed with say washine machines on etc the mains in the garage conduit would have changing current and may trigger a false alarm. (Alarm controller will be in the house). My question is - Is the mai…

I'm a bit confused about the definition of a zone. I thought a zone was an area, for example, the kitchen, or the front door. However, my Texecom manual, which accompanies an 8 zone Veritas 8 control panel, talks about eight programmable zone types. For example the eight zone types are listed as 1) Push-to-set, 2) Inhibited entry, 3) Guard, 4) Fire, 5) Tamper, 6) Entry/Exit, 7) Personal Attack and 8) Keyswitch. Is it just a coincidence that there are eight zones and eight zone types? My set-up will be fairly simple. I have the front door protected with a magnetic detector which I was going to connect to zone 1. I'll have three rooms each with a quad PIR, which I inte…

Hi, I have an Omicron 8000 panel which has started beeping periodically on it's own - the beeping is echoed on the remote keypad as well. The engineers manual suggests that this may be a 24 hour fault - and I did have a24 hour activation recently but I have now looped out the 24 hour circuit (with a link) but the panel still beeps periodically - any clues as to what this mighty be ? Also are A1 still in business ? thanks Mike

I have installed a Texecom Veritas R8 Plus control panel with an ADE Reson8 bellbox. When I test the external sounder using the test facility on the Programmer the sounder works fine. However, when the alarm is activated by triggering any of the sensors/contacts the external sounder does not sound but the internal sounder does activate, the bellbox strobe flashes and the Texecom Speech Dialler works fine. I have the control panel wired to the bellbox as follows: Control panel terminals____________Bellbox terminals Permanent Pos. supply ---------------------- Bell + Switched neg. to activate sounder ---------- Bell - Negative tamper return ---------------------- …

I am having an extension built, and despite talking to a few security companies, am not confident that they would give me the system that I want. Most seem to want to sell me a particular model, which I assume has highest profit margins, that only cover some of the features I want. I have found a Canadian company, DSC. They offer a Wired alarm system capable of having up to 32 channels, which can also have 32 wireless channels. Has anyone heard of DSC? Does anyone have any opinions of their powerseries products? Because I cant get an installer to do what I want, I think I am going to do it DIY. Should I be fitting contacts on every opening window/door? Will shock se…

We have just had to purchase a new bell due to our previous unknown bell packing up. We have purchased the Vortex bell box by Lynteck and are trying to install this unit to a Pyronix Octagon alarm panel that has an RKP contral panel attached and SD1 Speech dialler also attached. We have entered engineer mode and wired the bell as follows: Alarm Panel Bell BA TG- S+ Hold + -B Hold - BT Return STB STB- The alarm then sounded for 5 secs as the jumper was in the position for 5 secs then stopped but the lights are continuning to flash indicating bell trigger action. We…

Hi all, I'm planning to lay the wiring for my new alarm system (Texecom Premier 24), and wondered which would be the best place for installation; in the loft, or in the spare cupboard at the top of the stairs? Ease of installation is not an issue, which is why I am laying the wires myself. I would prefer to have the unit in the loft, but am concerned about how the unit will withstand the dust etc... Can anyone advise? , Stu

I currently have an old self-installed hard wired alarm system at home ... usual kit ... control panel/several PIR zones/one final exit & entry magnetic door contact/full anti tamper/external SCB sirens and so on. The thing is I want to rip the whole lot out, ditch the cables and start again with a wireless kit. I'm fed up with running cables all over the house (you know the feeling!). I've read that shop bought kits (e.g. the Yale HSA3600 system stocked at Homebase stores) are on UHF short range frequencies leading to false alarms and unreliability. The preferred wireless choice (apparently) is for a system built round VHF transmission/reception for more stability,…
