Electrics

For queries regarding Electrics.

  1. I am not taking anything anyway from your comments in the other thread. I was at a new build yesterday, where non of electrics had PE links to the patresses. Safe to assume the 150 odd houses are the same? Huge issue if your not planning on taking a socket apart?

I'm fed up of the kids leaving the bathroom and kitchen downlighters on all night wasting electric and costing me money, so I saw some 12v Led MR11 bulbs in the CPC catalog and thought I'd give them a try. The existing downlighters in each room are 4x20w halogens already 12v. I started replacxing the bulbs 1 at a time and all seemed good until I removed the last halogen when all the LEDs went dim. I have seen that there are LED Driver Transformers but what is the difference to a normal transformer and why did the LED bulbs work while there was 1 Halogen connected??

Looks like its not just our trade that can be rough as fook. Was fixing a galaxy 60 next to this lot this afternoon. And this is the incoming feed from the street, completely un insulated. Sorry about the 1st photo I took it in a rush as I didn't want my customer seeing me taking photos of his death trap.

old vt but still apt, maybe more so as we start to rely(?) on alternative (to hyro) renewable energy. Largest wind farm in world (whitstable) aint no good if in doldrums at the end of corrie etc.

I am looking into doing the Part P training but bot sure should I go with my local college or shall I do a 2/5 day crash course at a training centre? I have had a look online tonight and it is a mind field with all these companies offering the training spread over 2 - 5 days at a training centre and then taking the city & guilds exam. I will call a few tomorrow but wanted to know if anyone had done the college route or the crash course.

Another Cokup i want someone else to sort We install and maintain Emergency lighting as part of our services. To keep things tidy we only instal maintained systems, this way we dont need to get involved with other peoples wiring avoiding conecting our work into existing local lighting. A couple of weeks back we installed 11 x 1.5w LED emergency luminaires - only problem is that 10 of these were actualy NM fittings and because i had no obvious answer i instructed we fitted them. So Im now looking for someone local to replace the inners with the correct maintained units easy half day if anyone wants it.

My airing cupbard contains a heating system, which has a fused switched spur in there. My alarm system has been installed off this spur, via a fused connection of its own. Is this allowed? Regards Brum69

  10. Hi all I run a Security installation company in Middx. For the last couple of years we have used Electricians to fit our fused spurs for alarm & CCTV installations. Can someone please advise me of the Regs for the installation of fused spurs as I want to write notes in our employee contracts that they cannot & must not attempt to install a fused spur. None of our Engineers are qualified to fit spurs. Thank you clive sorts

Just wondering; is there any difference/benefit to using a spit load cu for a protected circuit against using an rcbo instead?

Hello everybody, I just got a job with fire alarm panels so there is still a lot of stuff I need to learn. Wonder if someone can explain me what is a earth fault, what can cause it and ways of troubleshooting it? Why do we need the earth in the 1st place? In all our panels the earth is connected to the negative terminal (0V) at the panel. Does the earth terminal play the same role in a DC and AC system? Thanks for your time.
